Bill Elliott And #21 Wood Brothers Motorcraft Ford Fusion Qualify In Top 20 At Darlington

Saturday May 10, 2008

Darlington, SC. (May 9, 2008)- The no. 21 Motorcraft Ford Fusion, driven by Bill Elliott, will start in the 20th position in Saturday night’s Dodge Challenger 500 at Darlington Raceway.

The “Lady In Black” made her mark on several race cars in this qualifying session, however, Bill Elliott drove the retro schemed #21 Motorcraft Ford unscathed for the two designated qualifying laps and secured the 20th position with a fast lap time of 27.818 seconds and a speed of 176.778 mph.

Elliott described how different the newly paved surface is from the last time he raced “The Track Too Tough To Tame” in 2003. He said, “It’s not the same Darlington. It’s going to be a little bit harder to race on because everybody seems to be running closer to the same speed.” He also added, “There’s a lot of grip and that’s one of the pluses and minuses of new pavement. You’ve got a lot of grip until it finally gives up and when it does give up it’s pretty big, but it’s still typical Darlington. I still say you’ve got to race the race track and I still say that’s the way it’s going to be come Saturday night.”

Watch Bill Elliott and the #21 Wood Brothers Motorcraft Ford Fusion race in the Dodge Challenger 500 on Fox at 7p.m. ET Saturday, May 10th.
