Travis Kvapil - California Highway Patrol Racing - Sonoma Advance
Wednesday June 18, 2008
Quoting California Highway Patrol Driver, Travis Kvapil:
What is your confidence level headed into Sonoma this weekend?
“I’ve only raced at Sonoma once but I know that my priorities for this weekend will be to stay on course and complete all the laps. I think our cars will be competitive and have enough speed in them, but I’m just going to have to do the best that I can out there. I don’t have a lot of road course experience so that means the time we get for practice this weekend is even more important to me than ever. I feel that if we can stay on course all day, and utilize some smart pit strategy with our great race car, I’m confident that we can get a solid finish out of our weekend. A lot of times fuel mileage plays a factor at Sonoma and I think our team has enough experience with fuel mileage where we might be able to surprise some people on Sunday. I was able to go test at Road Atlanta earlier this month and that really helped me to familiarize myself with a road course track again since it has been a few years since I’ve raced on one. I really feel confident in our car for this weekend, but I think the biggest factor is going to be how long it takes me to get up to speed and feel confident to run the laps that I need to all day long. I’m looking forward to a great weekend with our California Highway Patrol team.”
Quoting California Highway Patrol Crew Chief, Todd Parrott:
This is our first road course race of the season, what are the keys to a successful race?
“We were able to go to Road Atlanta earlier this month for a test session. That test allowed Travis (Kvapil) to gain some seat time at a road course so that he could reacquaint himself with a road course before we unload this weekend. The key for Travis and our team will be to stay on the course and to have good, clean pit stops. Drivers that race smart at the road courses usually tend to stay out of trouble all day, and quick pit stops seem to matter a little more at a road course where it’s difficult to pass and advance through the field. I’m very confident in the car we’re bringing with us and I know that Travis has done a lot to prepare himself for a successful weekend ahead for our California Highway Patrol Racing team.”
