Truex Heads to Indianapolis with Extra Incentive

Tuesday July 22, 2008

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 22, 2008) – After the six week suspension of his crew chief and car chief by NASCAR, Martin Truex Jr. approaches Sunday’s Brickyard 400 with even more determination than usual.

Crew chief Kevin “Bono” Manion and car chief Gary Putnam were suspended for the next six NASCAR Sprint Cup events due to infractions found on the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Chevrolet during inspection at Daytona on July 3. Manion was also fined $100,000 and the team was penalized 150 driver and owner points.

“We’d love to win this one for Bono and Gary,” Truex said. “We’ll accept the penalty and move on, but we definitely feel like we’ve got something to prove. I can just tell that this whole deal has lit a fire under everybody and we’re really anxious to prove that we can win and make a run at the Chase.”

Truex said that Indianapolis Motor Speedway, site of Sunday’s event, is a track that is special to every driver.

“If you’ve ever driven a race car, you’ve dreamed of winning at Indy,” continued Truex. “The track is legendary and so are the drivers who have won there. I love watching the old black and white films of the races there. To think that the NASCAR guys are racing at The Brickyard still blows my mind.

“I remember the first time I went to Indy. I couldn’t believe how big the place is or the number of fans that come to the race. Then, you go to the museum and see all the old race cars. It’s hard to believe that guys used to race those things. It definitely gives you an appreciation of the technology and safety advancements that we have today.”

Truex is currently 17th in 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points, 233 points out of 12th.
