Team Race Preview

NASCAR Nationwide Series Race 25 of 35 – Michigan International Speedway

MICHIGAN STATS: Cale Gale has one previous Nationwide Series start at Michigan International Speedway, coming in 2006, driving the No. 1 entry for Phoenix Racing. Gale started from the 15th position and led two laps before being caught in a wreck while running in the top 10. This week will mark Gale’s first start at the track for Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI).

THREE, TWO, ONE: This weekend will mark the first of Gale’s last three races for the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series season. Gale will compete this weekend in the CARFAX 250, followed by the Food City 250 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway and the Memphis 250 at Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park. With 10 races under his belt this season, Gale has earned Rookie of the Race honors five times and scored two top-10 finishes. Gale earned his Nationwide Series career-best starting position (third) and career best finish (sixth) at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis.

RESUME BUILDING: Continuing to prove he is willing to do anything to make it in NASCAR’s elite series, Gale stepped up to the spotter’s stand in Watkins Glen to be an eye in the sky for KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick in both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series races. Gale learned valuable lessons that will no doubt translate over to his driving. This week Gale moves from the spotter’s seat to the driver’s seat as he pilots the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway.

BEFORE THE RACE: QUOTES WITH DRIVER CALE GALE:

At O’Reilly Raceway Park (ORP) at Indianapolis, you earned your Nationwide Series career-best starting (3rd) and finishing (6th) positions. Does that motivate and follow you as you head to Michigan International Speedway? “Michigan is a totally different track from ORP. As a team, we’ve run well over the last few weeks and had three good weeks in a row. The team is working hard and that will help when we get to Michigan. We should have good results there too. The gains we’ve made as a team will definitely help.”

What’s the biggest difference between Michigan International Speedway and other 1.5 and 2-mile tracks? “Michigan is one of those tracks where you can run all over. The track has multiple grooves from the bottom to the top. As long as the car is good, we should have a good day. Hopefully we can go there, stay out of trouble and finish better than the last time I was there.”

CHASSIS HISTORY: This weekend, the No. 33 team will unload chassis No. 038 from the KHI stable. This chassis was last on track at Chicagoland Speedway with KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick behind the wheel. Harvick started the race from the fourth position, but was caught up in a lap-one incident and was able to battle back to an 18th-place finish. Prior to Chicagoland, this chassis was on track at Dover (Del.) International Speedway (13th-place finish), Texas Motor Speedway (34th-place finish after a broken axle while leading), Atlanta Motor Speedway (second-place finish) and the Auto Club Speedway of Southern California (third-place finish).

MAKING MEMORIES: As the winner of a promotion between Camping World and Watkins Glen International, Kevin Harvick fan Kelly Martin and guest Paul Williams earned the opportunity to meet Harvick, serve as honorary pit crew members and meet the No. 33 KHI crew. It was a weekend filled with activities and memories Martin won’t soon forget.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Two-time Nationwide Series champion and defending race winner Harvick was behind the wheel of the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet for the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen (N.Y) International. Harvick started the race from the sixth position and maintained his spot in the top 10 for most of the day. With varying pit and fuel strategies throughout the day, Harvick crossed the finish-line in fourth place.
