Truex Looks to Make Statement in California

Wednesday August 27, 2008

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Aug. 26, 2008) – Martin Truex entered the 2008 season with lofty goals, and while he and his No. 1 Bass Pro Shops Team have shown flashes of the speed that put them into the 2007 Chase for the Sprint Cup, Truex enters this weekend 263 points outside the top 12 and in 17th position.

With making this year’s Chase an unlikely scenario, Truex and his team will focus on other goals – winning races and finishing the year strong.

“You always want to win races, but it’s even more important to us now,” Truex said. “When you don’t make the Chase, people tend to forget about you. I refuse to let that happen to this team. People are going to be seeing a lot of us up front in these last 14 races.”

Next up on the Sprint Cup calendar is Sunday’s Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway, a track that Truex list as one of his favorites.

“I really like racing at California,” continued Truex. “It’s a fast track, probably faster than most people think. You’re really flying when you enter turn one. Much like Michigan, it is really wide and it has a number of racing grooves, so you can run low or high.”

Truex has finished sixth in each of the past two events at the 2.0-mile track, results he hopes to improve on.

“I’ve always felt comfortable at California and this weekend should be no different,” Truex said. “We’re bringing the car we call ‘The Workhorse’. We’ve used it a bunch this year and it usually runs well for us.

“We really want to finish strong the rest of this season and California would be a good place to start that run.”
