STATESVILLE, N.C. – Gillett Evernham Motorsports announced today the hiring of Carl DeWitt “De” Cordell, Sr. as the NASCAR Sprint Cup team’s chief sales and marketing officer.

“De brings a wealth of sports marketing experience that will enhance Gillett Evernham Motorsports’ value to our current and future partners, as well as great leadership skills to help build our team,” said GEM CEO Tom Reddin. “We see this as another step forward in our team’s quest to become the marquee team in motorsports.”

Cordell, a Charlotte resident and University of North Carolina graduate, said he looks forward to a new challenge.

“Gillett Evernham Motorsports offered a vision that was both intriguing and challenging and I think ultimately will be rewarding,” he said. “NASCAR’s explosive growth provides an ideal landscape for sponsors to extend their brands within its passionate fan base.”
