Jeff Gordon Unveils New 2009 Fan Club Logo With Contest Winner

Monday October 13, 2008

Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and Sam Bass showcase new fan-inspired design; meet with contest winner

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (October 10, 2008) — Jeff Gordon and Sam Bass unveiled Gordon’s new fan club logo with the help of dedicated fan Art Saarinen of Lexington, Massachusetts, Grand Prize Winner of The Jeff Gordon Network Fan Logo Design Contest. The unveiling occurred earlier today at the Sam Bass Gallery near Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord.

In the spring, Gordon announced the initiative to create a fresh identity for his popular fan club. He not only called upon his fans for concept ideas, but also recruited the help of renowned motorsports artist Sam Bass for the final design and development.

Saarinen’s design concept was one of four selected for the final cut and it was chosen by Gordon because of its modern, simplistic feel and certain creative elements.

The Massachusetts native, along with his son, were flown to Charlotte for a VIP race weekend experience, which included private tours of the Sam Bass Gallery and Hendrick Motorsports along with a meet and greet with Gordon and Bass.

“This is one of the biggest thrills of my life,” said Saarinen. “To be able to combine my two greatest passions, art and NASCAR, into this contest effort and to win the chance to meet Jeff and Sam is beyond what I imagined.”

Gordon is extremely pleased that the final design incorporated the key elements of Saarinen’s concept while being ‘tweaked’ to perfection by Bass.

“The Jeff Gordon Network logo re-design was a lot of fun and Mr. Saarinen’s design idea was very easy to work with,” said Bass. “It took only a few subtle changes to get it to the point where Jeff wanted it to be and I am happy to have been included in the process.” “I love how Sam utilized the mirrored effect of the letters and the block style of background with the checkered flag element,” Gordon said. “Of course, it all started with Mr. Saarinen’s design concept and I’m happy that he and his son could be here today for the official unveiling and to experience an amazing race weekend.

“It was really cool to have the fans directly involved with creating a new identity for my fan club and I’m really happy with the way Sam brought his concept to life.”
The new logo will officially be incorporated on Gordon’s website, www.JeffGordon.com, at the end of this year.
