Quoting Yates Racing driver Travis Kvapil on Martinsville:
“I really enjoy Martinsville because I actually made my first Cup series start at Martinsville in 2004. I’ve always had pretty good luck when I raced in the Truck series and I also had a few good runs in the Cup series where we qualified well. I enjoy the short tracks on the Cup series circuit and Martinsville is one of the great ones we get to race at. The emphasis at Martinsville is on handling and taking care of your equipment so that you can be there to finish at the end of the day. I feel that Martinsville is more challenging in a lot of aspects, than racing at a banked short track like Bristol. There are more demands on the race car and it presents more wear and tear on the brakes. With the limited space on the track and the nature of short track racing, it becomes fairly easy to get bumped around which can alter your car’s handling, so my focus is to keep the car clean all race long.”
Quoting Yates Racing crew chief Todd Parrott on Martinsville:
I am optimistic about this weekend at Martinsville and that we can turn our luck around after last weekend’s race at Charlotte. We are bringing the same car we raced here earlier in the season and finished 18th with, so we’re pretty confident in this car. Travis (Kvapil) has raced at Martinsville both in the Cup and Truck series so he is well aware of the track and the challenges that Martinsville poses. I think that we should have a pretty solid performance for this team all weekend long. Our goal every weekend is to showcase what Yates Racing has to offer and I feel confident that we can do that this weekend at Martinsville.”
