Elliott Sadler Phoenix Advance

Tuesday November 4, 2008

STATESVILLE, N.C. (Nov. 4, 2008) – Race teams spend a lot of time testing, preparing and engineering magnificent machines designed to withstand a torture test each weekend, but sometimes it just comes down to a rock or a piece of debris.

The No. 19 Dodge suffered such a fate earlier this season when visiting Phoenix. Sadler was running strong inside the top-five when a rock or piece of debris from the racetrack bounced underneath the car and caused the oil pump belt to come off, which led to a blown engine. The No. 19 Dodge retired from the race with a 41st place result.

“That is one of those racing deals,” said Sadler. “It’s frustrating. We spend millions on research and development to design parts and pieces that can withstand extreme conditions, but a rock or piece of debris can bounce up and ruin your day in an instance.

“We were having a great day up until that point. This time we are bringing the same chassis with the hope that it performs as well as it did that day, because we had an awesome car. But, we are also taking steps to make sure that the same thing doesn’t happen again.”

The No. 19 Dodge is racing with SIEMENS as the primary sponsor for the weekend.

Elliott Sadler Quote

On Racing at Phoenix: “Phoenix is a tough race track to prepare for because the corners are so different. In a way, it’s kind of like Pocono – you have to pick which corner you want to be good in and really work on it, but you’re probably not going to have a perfect car for the entire racetrack. It’s also tough on the engine and brakes, so you have to really be technically sound to compete all day.”
