DODGE AT HOMESTEAD-MIAMI SPEEDWAY

Kurt Bush gave Dodge its last Sprint Cup victory when he won the LENOX Industrial 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in June.
The Dodge R6P8 engine made its NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut at Kansas Speedway in the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger driven by Kurt Busch. Busch raced the R6P8 to its highest-finish to date (four races) last weekend in Phoenix where he was runner-up.
Dodge has earned four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins in 2008. Ryan Newman (Daytona 500), Kasey Kahne (Charlotte-1, Pocono-1) and Kurt Busch (New Hampshire-1). Kahne also won the Sprint All-Star Race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

HOMESTEAD-MIAMI SPEEDWAY TRACK FACTS
The inaugural event at Homestead-Miami Speedway was the Jiffy Lube 300 (Busch Series, now Nationwide Series) on Nov. 5, 1995. The race winner was Dale Jarrett.
After Hurricane Andrew in 1992, a storm that left much of Homestead laden in destruction, Homestead-Miami Speedway was the brain child of promoter Ralph Sanchez. One of his goals was to help the residents of Homestead get back on their feet by building a race track that would filter money back into the town’s economy. The construction began on August 24, 1993 and was dedicated on Nov. 3, 1995.
Variable-degree banking and lights were added to HMS in 2003. The state-of-the-art designed increased the banking to 18-20 degree from what was a relatively flat track surface.
Four of the nine Sprint Cup events have been won from the front row (two from each starting spot).
The track qualifying record of 181.111 mph (29.816 sec) was set in 2003.

DID YOU KNOW?
Bill Elliott and Kurt Busch are the only two drivers who have won a race at Homestead-Miami Speedway from the pole. Elliott accomplished the feat in 2001 and Busch in 2002.
In 1990, there was one lead change in the race. Rusty Wallace led the first 50 laps before Dale Earnhardt took the front spot and led to the checkered flag (262 laps).
The most recent Raybestos® Rookie to win a Sprint Cup Series race is Dodge driver Juan Pablo Montoya. Montoya captured the 2007 Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon (Sonoma, Calif.) Raceway, crossing the finish line 4.097 seconds ahead of Kevin Harvick who finished second.
Only three drivers in the Chase have failed to post a win in 2008. The other nine have combined for 31 wins.
No NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion has finished the championship year with a win in the season finale at Homestead-Miami.
Kasey Kahne has raced in the top 15 in 70 percent of the laps run at Homestead-Miami, fourth most among drivers. He has a driver rating of 97.4 (fifth best) and has recorded 63 of the fastest laps (second most).

Dodge Driver Quotes:
“At Phoenix, we were competitive from the time we unloaded on Friday morning till we took the checkered flag in second-place behind the 48 car (Jimmie Johnson) there on Sunday night. It was the most competitive start-to-finish weekend that our team has enjoyed the entire season. That’s our goal for this weekend; to finish the season off with another great effort like that. We definitelyhope to end our year with another strong performance.” Kurt Busch, No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger

“This weekend isn’t going to be easy for me. It was a tough decision to leave Penske Racing. This has been my only home since I came to NASCAR eight years ago. It was difficult telling the guys that I had made the decision to leave back in July, and I know it is going to be tough this weekend since it is my last race with the 12 team and I am saying goodbye. I have to be thankful for all the things that I have — beyond the trophies and awards, beyond the pay checks, I have gotten friends and relationships and that’s something I will always be grateful for. I have had a good run with Penske, and I am leaving with some very fond memories — especially of this year’s Daytona 500 win with myteammate pushing me across the finish line, my dad spotting for me, and being able to give something to Roger Penske that he had tried so hard for over the years. That is by far my fondest racing memory and I will always be grateful for that. But the show most go on, I will do my thing and I plan on being friends with everybody and I wish them the best of luck — and I am sure they feel the same.” Ryan Newman, No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger
