Dodge Motorsports Notes & Quotes - Saturday Final Practice - Robby Gordon
Saturday November 15, 2008
Robby Gordon (No. 7 Jim Beam Dodge Charger)
HOW IS YOUR CAR HEADING INTO RACEDAY? “I think our Jim Beam Dodge Charger is pretty good. We qualified 14th and were 29th in the earlier practice, but that’s only because we didn’t have any new tires to put on the car. We ended up 17th in Happy Hour which is pretty decent. I think our car is fast and Penske has been providing good power. This is a car that we raced with at Atlanta when we finished 19th, so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t finish better than that this weekend.”
HOW AERO-SENSITIVE IS THIS RACE TRACK? “It’s very aero-sensitive and grip seems to be a problem with these tires. Not that the tires are bad, it’s the same for everybody. Just getting a hold of the race track seems to be difficult.”
WITH THE VARIABLE-BANKING AT HOMESTEAD-MIAMI SPEEDWAY, DOES THE COT NATURALLY DRIVE THROUGH THE MULTIPLE GROOVES OR DO YOU HAVE TO FORCE IT A BIT? “Our car drives great. I can drive on the top and bottom groove without any problem at all. I think that I run better between Turns 3 and 4 and up against the wall between (Turns) 1 and 2. We’ll have to see tomorrow how it all plays out. Obviously, if there’s a slower car in front of me, we’ll have to transition and be able to run in multiple places on the track.”
WILL YOU RACE THE 99 AND 48 ANY DIFFERENTLY TOMORROW? “No. I race those guys clean anyways. They’re in a position they are because they’ve been consistent all year long. For me, we’re just going to try and do the best job that we can. If we’re racing the 48 and 99 for the race win, we’re going to go for the race win. But at the same time, I’d like to see those guys (48 and 99) have a clean shot at a win as well.”
