Kasey Kahne WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race in NASCAR Banking 500
Monday October 19, 2009
WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE NASCAR BANKING 500 NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES RACE AT LOWE’S MOTOR SPEEDWAY, OCTOBER 17, 2009.
· Kasey Kahne led twice for 67 laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in tonight’s NASCAR Banking 500. Kahne claimed the honor for the third time this season. He has now led eight times in seven races this season for a total of 247 laps.
· Kahne scored a third-place finish, his sixth top-five and 13th top-10 finish of the season. He claimed his 33rd top-five in 141 superspeedway starts and the 40th in 211 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. Kahne has now led 2,041 laps on superspeedways in his career.
· UNOFFICIALLY Kahne is ninth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship standings, a gain of two positions. He is 43 points behind eighth-place Ryan Newman and 10 ahead of 10th-place Carl Edwards.
· Tony Stewart leads Kyle Busch by one race (7-6) in the overall WIX Filters Lap Leader standings.
· KAHNE QUOTES: IT LOOKED LIKE IT TOOK A WHILE FOR YOU TO GET GOING ON THE RESTARTS. “I always have a problem when I start off the front row, this whole year, on restarts, and I just spin my tires. I try not to give it throttle and don’t spin my tires and I get pushed from behind so I have a problem with it.” AFTER JIMMIE JOHNSON WON THE RACE TONIGHT, CAN YOU OFFER HOPE THAT THE RACE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP IS NOT OVER? “I don’t either of us [NOTE: Matt Kenseth was seated next to Kahne] can stop him at this point as far as points goes [smiles]. It’s definitely not over, I mean anything can happen the rest of the year but if it doesn’t, I think Jimmie is the guy to beat.”
