No. 02 Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota Finishes 28th at Texas Motor Speedway
Tuesday November 10, 2009
Fort Worth, TX – David Gilliland, driver of the No. 02 Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Joe Gibbs Racing, finished 28th tonight in the Dickies 500 from Texas Motor Speedway.
The No. 02 Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota rolled off the grid from the 21st position this afternoon. Immediately from the drop of the green flag David Gilliland and the Joe Gibbs Racing team battled an ill-handling Toyota Camry. David came on the radio early telling the team that the Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota was really tight and was pushing in the corners.
Crew chief Wally Brown assured his driver that changes where coming on the next stop. Unfortunately the early stages of the race produced long green flags runs, which resulted in the team going a lap down early.
“The Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota didn’t handle the way we needed it to early. It just started out really tight and they tried to get it loosened up on the first few stops but by then we’re already so far behind on the track,” said David Gilliland after the race.
From that point the team fought an uphill battle to get the car handling better for David and by the races conclusion the team had made remarkable progress, as David ran lap times comparable to the leaders.
“It’s unfortunate, because we had the Farm Bureau Insurance Toyota really good by the end of the race, but it’s hard to catch up that late. I’m proud of the team though – they never gave up and we had some awesome pit-stops tonight,” said David Gilliland.
