To the Point: Dennis Setzer put on yet another dominating performance in the Craftsman Truck Series, winning his fourth race of the season after leading 177 of 200 laps on Friday night. At the drop of the checkered flag, Setzer was one of only six drivers on the lead lap, the fewest the track has ever seen. For most of the race, Setzer checked out from the rest of the field, but as the laps were winding down he got into a battle for the lead with Todd Kluever. However, a late race caution placed the trucks single-file and Setzer wasted no time pulling away to the victory.
Who Should Have Won: Dennis Setzer, no doubt about it! He was the class of the field all race long and was definitely deserving of a dominating victory.
Question You Should Be Asking After the Race Weekend:
1) Can anyone catch Dennis Setzer? With 10 races left in the season, we all know anything can happen, but right now Dennis Setzer is hot. His 222 points lead over second place is the largest lead any driver has had since 2000 and Setzer isn’t done yet. Although he is known as the “short track king”, Setzer has proven that he is capable of dominating anywhere this year, as evidenced by his victories at the Michigan International Speedway and the Kentucky Speedway, and his top-fives at Texas Motor Speedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway. With most of the remaining races at larger tracks, there may be an opening for other drivers. But I wouldn’t count on it.
Worth Noting/Points Shuffle:
Dennis Setzer now holds a 227 points lead over second place Ted Musgrave, the largest by a leader since 200.
The top five points position remain the same, but there have been some minor changes 6 – 10. David Reutimann moved up one to sixth, Matt Crafton jumped two to seventh, and Rick Craven fell three spots to ninth.
The biggest jump of those still mathematically eligible for the champions (the top 29) was Robert Pressley’s three point jump to 20th.
After an unremarkable early going, Todd Kluever’s second place finish on Friday was his second in four races and his fourth top-10 finish in the last five races.
Robert Pressley’s seventh place finish was his best finish of the season and only his second top-10 of 2005.
After struggling to even make the field early in the season, with his seventh place finish at IRP Brendan Gaughan has now earned four top-10s and two top-fives in the last five races and has moved from 27th to 19th in the point standings in just the last six races.
Aric Armirola, a driver in Joe Gibbs Racing’s diversity program, finished 10th in his second ever Craftsman Truck Series start driving the No. 47 Home Depot Chevrolet, a teammate to race winner Dennis Setzer.
One week after being released from his Busch Series ride at FitzBradshaw Racing, Tim Fedewa finished 20th in his first Craftsman Truck Series start, driving the No. 35 Glynn Motorsports Dodge.
Memphis Motorsports Park’s surprise race winner, Brandon Whitt, was involved in an early race accident and ended up with a 24th place finish.

If I was losing a little on the track, they gave it back to me on pit stops. I just had a great truck under me all night. We worked really hard tonight in that short one-hour practice we had late this afternoon. I am just so proud of this entire Team Silverado effort.” -- Dennis Setzer

"I thought tonight was going to be our night," Kluever said. "I've been waiting a long time this year to win one of these things and I'm pretty disappointed it didn't happen. I thought it was ours until that last caution, and I just got too tight at the end. I really think we could have won if the race had stayed green. Several people have told me you have to lose a few close ones before you get your first win. I think after this race and Kansas, we're due for our win now." -- Todd Kluever
“We’re definitely back. Unfortunately for us we got the worst fuel mileage we’ve gotten all year. That might have been a little bit the driver’s fault because the truck was driving so good I was running it awfully hard. But there shouldn’t be any question now that in the Craftsman Truck Series we’re going to be one of the trucks to keep an eye on when we unload to race.” -- Brendan Gaughan.
After sharing the city with the Busch Series for one week, the Craftsman Truck Series goes solo and heads to Nashville for the Toyota Tundra 200. The 16th race of the season will be held on Saturday, August 13th, at 8:30 EST live on Speed.
