Chase Elliott Captures First Victory in No. 9 ABF Bandolero
Monday July 30, 2007
(Cornelius, N.C. July 27, 2007) - Chase Elliott is continuing the Elliott family tradition of winning races and making his sponsors proud. In week nine of the ten-week Thursday Thunder Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway, 11-year-old Elliott drove the No. 9 ABF Bandolero to Victory Lane for his first win in the Legends Car Bandits division.
"Everyone at ABF is extremely excited to be associated with such a talented young man, both on and off the track. Our congratulations go out to Chase on his first series victory," said Danny Loe, ABF director of marketing and public relations. "Chase has a bright future ahead of him, and ABF is proud to be on board for the next generation of the Elliott family."
Elliott drew 31st in the draw for starting position, which placed him fourth on the grid for his heat race. Unfortunately, the handling on the ABF Bandolero was off, and he slipped back a position during the eight-lap sprint. Elliott drove straight to the garage and joined dad and crew chief, Bill Elliott, in adjusting the setup before the night's feature race.
The new setup on the ABF Bandolero was just what Elliott needed; after starting the Zaxby's Bandits feature race in tenth, he drove up to fifth before the first caution. Following the restart, Elliott gained three more positions and found himself in second when the next caution came out. On lap 12, Elliott drove to the inside of the No. 199 of Kyle Plott to take the lead. On lap 17, Elliott posted the fastest lap of the Bandits division, circling the Thunder Ring in 17.255 seconds. The No. 9 ABF Bandolero stayed out front for the final eight laps and Elliott captured his first Bandolero victory of his career.
"This was the best day I've had racing so far," Elliott said following the Victory Lane celebrations. "I finally captured my first Bandolero victory, and with only one race left this season, I'm looking forward to trying again next week. The setup we had in the feature race was perfect, and the ABF Bandolero was so easy to drive. I wish it could be like that every race! I'm just really excited about my first win, and I'm waiting to find out if Gordon Pirkle sounded the siren in Dawsonville from the Pool Room.
"I am very thankful for the support from ABF and all of my sponsors this season. I am proud to drive the ABF Bandolero here and in Charlotte, and I'm excited about working with them in the future. Hopefully we will have many more wins together!"
Bill Elliott, Chase's father, team owner, crew chief and hero, appreciates the support ABF and other sponsors have provided his son in his first Bandolero season. "This was Chase's first season working with his own sponsor, and ABF was the perfect company for this program. They have been very supportive of Chase. He proudly wears his ABF gear around the track and at home, and he understands that he needs that support to continue his racing career. Chase made some appearances at ABF's NASCAR hospitality events this year, and the interaction has been great for him. We are definitely looking forward to continuing the relationship between Chase and ABF."
Chase Elliott is also supported by associate sponsors Aaron's Sales & Lease Ownership, Georgia Automobile Racing Hall of Fame and the Dawsonville Pool Room.
