Michael Annett Kentucky Pre-race

Thursday May 8, 2008

Race/Date: Drive Smart Buckle Up Kentucky 150 – May 10, 2008

Location: Kentucky Speedway – Sparta, Ky.

NOTES:

This Week’s Racecar for Kentucky Speedway is Chassis 28-109. This is the same car that Annett drove to a fourth-place finish at Kansas Speedway in April.
Points Leader… Michael Annett and his Bill Davis Racing No. 28 Pilot Travel Centers Toyota Camry team lead the point standings in the ARCA RE/MAX Series Superspeedway Challenge.
Newbie… Annett has never raced at Kentucky Speedway; however, the rookie has an average finish of 4.16 on tracks on which he has previously never raced.
Auto Pilot On… Pilot Travel Centers, LLC, will sponsor Annett and his No. 28 Toyota Camry this weekend. Pilot Travel Centers is the nation’s largest operator of travel centers and over-the-road diesel fuel stations.
Last Time Out… Annett started fourth and finished fifth last weekend in the Carolina 500k at Rockingham (N.C.) Speedway.
Patience, Patience, Patience… Annett has overcome many difficulties throughout the races in which he has competed this year. Despite issues ranging from explosions to penalties, the rookie sensation has remained calm, cool and collected during each race and has only finished outside the top-10 once in his young career.
Making History… Annett was the first driver in the 55-year ARCA RE/MAX Series history to take the Toyota nameplate to victory lane, which he did at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in 2007. He qualified second and led all but 19 laps en route to that victory. Annett also won again at the 2008 ARCA 200 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway earlier this year.
Proving His Worth… Though Annett’s career ARCA Series stats boast only eight starts, they are impressive: two victories, one pole, five top-five finishes and seven top-10 finishes.
The Puck Stops Here… At the age of 16, Annett signed a contract to play professional hockey for Team Illinois, a tier one AAA team. In 2004, Annett was voted the most improved player in the U.S. Hockey League.
Listen and Watch … The Drive Smart Buckle Up Kentucky 150 is scheduled to start at 8:00pm EST Saturday, May 10.

Michael Annett’s Racing Quotes:

Michael Annett on Racing at Kentucky Speedway:

“I have never run at Kentucky before, but I have a pretty good track record at new tracks, so we should run well this weekend. I am having a blast out here and can’t thank Bill Davis enough for giving me this opportunity. Joe [Lax, crew chief] and the guys have this car running so strong each weekend, and I am just thrilled to be behind the wheel. I can’t wait to hit the track on Saturday and try and get this Pilot Travel Centers Toyota Camry in victory lane.”

Message Board Quote of the Week: “I don’t see how Rusty + DEI + COT = competitive on the racetrack in 2009. I do see how Rusty could hook a sponsor, though, which DEI needs more than ever with Paul Menard leaving and taking the Menards money with him.” Scott B on rumors that Rusty Wallace would be making a return to NASCAR behind the wheel of a DEI-owned machine
