Potts Wins His First of the Season at SSP in the Late Models on Saturday Night; Billet Wins Make-up Feature from Last Week

Newberrytown, PA (May 10, 2008) – Racing action at the Susquehanna Speedway Park for Stock Car Saturday Night found Gary Potts of Mt. Wolf won his first victory of the season in the Late Model division. Carl Billet from Carlisle picked up the postponed feature from last week over Gene Knaub. Newville’s Wes Alleman won the make-up Street Stock feature postponed from April 26. In the regularly schedule Street Stock main event, Halifax’s Craig Morgan claimed his first season victory. Lancaster’s Ray Broderick won his second Xtreme Stock feature of the season. Kendra Knaub of Dover won the first Women on Wheels Stock Cars feature of the season. The Speedway Auto Sales Women on Wheels Mini Van feature went to Kelly Young.

The evening began with a make-up 20-lap Street Stock feature from April 26. Jenn Scott and Joey Hoffer brought the field to the green to start the event with Hoffer taking the lead. On the next lap Wes Alleman took over the lead from Hoffer and never looked back. Alleman took the win over Hoffer. Paul Morgan finished third. Eric Walker and Craig Morgan finished fourth and fifth.

Following the make-up Street Stock feature event, the last 17 laps of the postponed Fab Four Late Model race was completed. When the rains hit last week, Gene Knaub was leading the feature on lap 8 over Carl Billet and Jake Jones. When racing action resumed, Gene Knaub continued to lead until Billet was able to get by on lap 12. Knaub stayed close but was unable to regain the lead. Billet picked up the Fab Four victory worth $1,000 for his efforts. Knaub finished second, followed by Travis McClelland, Charles Potts and Cam Zeigler in third, fourth and fifth respectively.

The 20-lap Late Model feature began with Gary Potts leading from his pole position. Steve Billet started sixth and drove by Potts on lap 7. Potts regained the lead on the 12th circuit and took his first win of the season. Carl graves finished third. Jake Jones and Justin Ehrhart rounded out the top five. Gary Potts, Sterling Kinard and Jake Jones won the qualifying heat races. Chaz Walls was declared the winner of the consolation event when only six cars made the call for the race.

Chad Smith took the early lead in the 20-lap Street Stock feature event. Craig Morgan and Scott Thunberg stayed very close to Smith through the first half of the feature. Morgan and Smith swapped the lead for three laps until Morgan took command on the 11th lap. Morgan finished the last lap in the lead over Smith in second. Third place went to Wes Alleman who picked up win earlier in the evening. Thunberg finished fourth with Paul Morgan in fifth. Heats were won by Chad Smith and Craig Morgan.

In the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event, Donnie Broderick quickly grabbed the lead off the front row to lead the first 8 circuits. Travis Horan took the lead on lap nine with Broderick taking it back on the next lap. Horan took control of the top spot once again on lap 11 for the next six laps. Donnie’s father, Ray moved past Horan on the 17th lap and held on for his second victory of the season over Horan. Matt Wampler finished third with Sam Rial and Chris Heller rounding out the top five. Matt Adams, Chris Heller and Ray Broderick won the qualifying heat races. John Scrivens won the consolation race.

In the 20-lap Four Cylinder feature, Mike Potts took the early lead over the field. On the second circuit, Dennis Christ, Jr. took command. At the halfway point, Ronnie Buck battled by Christ and went on to pick up his second SSP victory in as many races this season. Leroy Long who started in the third row beside Buck finished second. Eric Hollenbach finished third with John Stoll, Jr. coming from the back after a first lap flat tire to finish fourth. Christ, Jr. finished fifth. Stoll and Ed Hollenbach won their respective heat races.

The 10-lap Women on Wheels Stock Car feature began with contact between Nancy Horan Frye and Karen Hawthorne at the start. Frye led the entire event but was relegated to the rear for rough driving, handing the victory over to Kendra Knaub. Hawthorne finished second, followed by Beth Buhrman and Renee Luckenbaugh. Frye was scored in fifth.

In the 8-lap Speedway Auto Sales Women on Wheels Mini Van feature, Deanna Frye jumped out to the early lead from the pole. With two laps remaining, Kelly Young made the pass for the lead and took the victory at the end. Frye finished second, followed by Amy Crider, Jenny Brubaker and Jodie Farrar.
