Great Weekend of Racing at the City

It was another great weekend of racing at Auto City, with action on both Friday and Saturday nights.
On Friday Travis Eddy set fast time for the Modifieds for the third straight week with a 16.25. Nick Clemons took the win in the dash while Chuck Silva won the heat race. In the 30-lap feature Johnny Belott jumped out in front early. Joe Hodgeson, Jr. tried his best to catch up, but Belott stayed ahead to take the win. Rounding out the top 5 were Clemons, Eddy and Rick Wiecorek.
In the Sportsman division Kyle Hayden set fast time with a 17.44 and Kevin Harder took the heat. Two drivers waged a battle in the 25-lap feature as Harder finished just ahead of Hayden for the win. Dennis Roys took third followed by Dan Engel and Jerry Giffel.
Defending track champion Robby Johnston was again the man to beat in the Factory Stocks with a fast time of 15.01. Timmy Near won the dash while Rob Sullivan captured the heat. Near jumped ahead in the 25-lap feature. On lap 15 Johnston made his move on the high side to take the lead. Robby made it a perfect start to 2008, taking his 3rd straight feature. Near was second followed by Nick Lechota, Sulivan and Tony Basalone.
Lonnie Saumier led qualifying for the Led Sleds with a 16.54. Chad Lamson took the dash and Ricky Plamondon won the heat. Plamondon took the lead in the wild 25-lap feature with the whole charging behind. On lap 13 Saumier took over the lead and stayed in front for the win. Plamondon took second followed by Chris Stearns, K.C. Snover and Rob Kern.
On Saturday Robby Johnston again set fast for the Factory Stocks with a 15.14. Timmy Near took the dash and Rob Sullivan won the heat. Then Sullivan won his first feature of the season followed by Jim Miller, Jr., Johnston, Nick Lechota and Jay Woolworth.
Lonnie Saumier is proving to be the guy to beat in the Led Sleds, setting quick time with a 16.85. Jimmy Stratton took the dash while Scott Beach won the heat. Saumier won the feature for the second night in a row. K.C. Snover was second followed by Joe O’Leary, Rex Perry and Stratton.
Defending champ Rod Marsh was fastest in the Thunder Trucks with a 15.85. Dale Keenan won the dash and Scott Haggadone took the heat. Brian Cogswell took the victory in the feature followed by Keenan, Rod Marsh, Dave Marsh and Colt Mabry.
In the Auto Zone Hornets, Andrew Abbott led time trials with a 17.49. Loren Short grabbed the dash win while Ryan Shelton took the heat. Then Abbott capped off his night with a feature win. Short was second followed by Jeremy Shelenberger, Paige Amy and Miles Allen.

The Auto Value Super Sprints made their 2008 debut on Saturday night with a field of 15 cars. Veteran Jason Blonde won the feature followed by Jimmy McCune and Ike Beasley.
