Newberrytown, PA (July 5, 2008) – Racing action at the 3rd Annual Summer Fun Championships on Saturday night, July 5 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park found Travis McClelland of Westminister, Maryland winning the 30-lap Summer Late Model Championship over Randy Christine Jr. Newville’s Wes Alleman won his fourth of the season in the very competitive Street Stock division. Chris Heller of Carlisle won the 25-lap Xtreme Stock feature as Dennis Christ Jr. of Fredericksburg led all 25 laps to win the Four Cylinder feature event.

The start of the 30-lap Late Model feature saw a four car accident on the frontstretch involving Carl Billet, Darrel Henry, John Moser Jr. and Larry Meadow, Jr. On the next start, Ken Knoll took the early lead for the first two circuits. Travis McClelland took the lead on the third lap. After a lap 6 caution, the rest of the feature went non-stop with Randy Christine Jr. chasing down McClelland and even closed the gap near the end as the leaders entered lapped traffic near the end. At the finish, McClelland held on by a car length over McClelland to claim the 30-lap Summer Championship. Scott Richwine came from a 14th starting position to finish third. Early leader Ken Knoll finished a strong fourth place followed by Jake Jones in fifth. Kyle Saylor, Ken Knoll and Charles Potts won their qualifying heat races with Potts setting a new 6-lap track record of 2 minutes 21.34 seconds.

The 25-lap Street Stock feature event began with excitement and ended with excitement as Mike Herman took the early lead. A dislodged truck lid from Herman’s car put him in the pits and relinquished the lead to Dave Thompson Jr. on the third circuit. George Eash grabbed the lead on the lap 9 with a huge pack of contenders behind him. Eash led until his engine started to fad and turned the lead over to Wes Alleman on lap 23. Eric Walker chased Alleman to the end but was unable to make the pass for the win in the last two laps. Wes Alleman took the win over Walker, Eash, Craig Morgan and Dave Thompson Jr. Mike Herman, Chad Smith and Dave Thompson Jr. won their respective heat races with Mike Herman setting a new 6-lap track record of 2 minutes 24.13 seconds.

In Xtreme Stock Car action, John Frye led the first two laps until Ray Broderick grabbed the lead on the third circuit. A three car battle then ensued for the lead between Broderick, Travis Horan and Chris Heller. Horan finally took the lead on the 13th lap and gave it up to Heller on the 16th lap. Through the waning stages of the race, Heller opened up a small gap to take his second feature win of the season over Ray Broderick in second. Jason Failor finished a strong third, followed by Travis Horan and Sam Rial. Ray Broderick, Sam Rial and Matt Adams won their qualifying heat races. Matt Wampler won the consolation event.

Message Board Quote of the Week: “I don’t see how Rusty + DEI + COT = competitive on the racetrack in 2009. I do see how Rusty could hook a sponsor, though, which DEI needs more than ever with Paul Menard leaving and taking the Menards money with him.” Scott B on rumors that Rusty Wallace would be making a return to NASCAR behind the wheel of a DEI-owned machine
