Peltier Dominates RC Cola/Moon Pie 100 at Music City Motorplex

Sunday July 6, 2008

July 5, 2008 Nashville, Tenn.- On a beautiful holiday weekend in Music City, the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour rolled into the Music City Motorplex for the RC Cola/Moon Pie 100, featuring some of the best drivers from around the Southeast.

Mooresville, NC’s Jeff Choquette and Auburn, KY’s Keeton Hanks brought the field to the green flag of the RC Cola/Moon Pie 100 at the Music City Motorplex. Choquette quickly jumped to the lead, but his hold on the top spot was short lived as Preston Peltier blew past him on the third lap to take the lead. On lap thirty-eight, Bubba Pollard’s No. 26 hit the wall in turn three, bringing out the night’s first yellow flag and bringing the field back to the rear bumper of Peltier. It made no difference as Peltier raced out to more than a half straightaway lead over the pack of cars racing for second through sixth.

The yellow waved again with eleven laps to go, giving the No. 10 of Ryan Crane one last chance to get around Peltier. It looked like Crane may have had a run going until the car of Dillon Oliver got into the wall and forced another restart. Unfortunately for Crane, Peltier had a flawless restart the second time around and continued his dominant run all the way to the checkered flag. Peltier was followed by Crane, ASA Southeast points leader Jay Middleton, Russell Fleeman and John Bolen, who worked his way from his fourteenth starting spot to finish in the top five.

Music City Motorplex Late Model points leader Dillon Oliver ran in the top ten most of the race until contact with the wall on the restart with eleven laps to go ended his night. After climbing as high as second, 2006 Motorplex Late Model Rookie of the Year Hanks finished in the sixth position. Mike Alexander, Jr. also had a good night, starting in the sixth spot and finishing tenth.

The night of non-stop racing action kicked off on the Motorplex quarter-mile with the INEX Legends division feature race. For the first time in 2008, the Legend Pro Master and Legend Semi Pro divisions ran together in one forty lap feature event. David Moyes III and the second place car of Rob Sanders quickly pulled away from the field after the drop of the green flag. Sanders finally got around Moyes to take the lead on lap thirteen, only to give it back to Moyes on the restart after the caution flag waved on lap twenty. It only took two laps for Sanders to get back out in front of the field and stay there, followed by Kevin Rollins in second. After playing a little bumper tag with Josh Berry late in the race, Moyes managed to hold him off for a third place finish. Rob Sanders took home his sixth Legend Pro division win of the year, followed by Rollins, Moyes and Berry.

It was also a good night for the father/son driving duo of Kenny and Brandon Summers, as both took home trophies Saturday following their wins in the Legend Master and Semi Pro divisions.
Danny Wilkerson and Taylor Ryman brought the Thunderstox down to the green flag of their fender-bending twenty lap race. It didn’t take long for Ryman to jump in front of Wilkerson, as the two began their back and forth battle for the top spot, trading the lead five times in the first ten laps. It looked like it would be a two-man show for the win until Ryman spun coming out of turn two, bringing out the caution on lap eleven. Wilkerson easily kept the lead on the restart and pulled away for his third win of the year. Dale Travis, Matt Barnes, who charged into the top three from the twelfth starting spot, Charles Goddard, Jr and Jeremy Newman rounded out the top five.

Racing action at the Music City Motorplex will continue with Double Points Dollar Night on Friday, July 11. As the championship battle among the NASCAR Late Models, Super Trucks and Grand Nationals heats up, all divisions will be racing for double points.
Admission for adults and children ages 6- 11 is only $1 dollar, and children five and under are admitted free. For additional information, please visit www.musiccitymotorplex.com, or contact the Motorplex office at (615) 726-1818.
