Ramsey, Johnson Split LMSC Wins At South Boston Speedway

SOUTH BOSTON……Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. and Justin Johnson of Durham, N.C. split wins in the pair of 75-lap races for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division that headlined Saturday night’s Miss Utility Night race program here at South Boston Speedway.

The win by Ramsey in the opening race was his third win here this season. Johnson’s win in the nightcap was his fourth triumph at the .4-mile oval thus far this season.

Ramsey started on the pole in the opener and led the entire race, edging Deac McCaskill of Raleigh, N.C. by .779 second in the race that was slowed by one caution period.

Johnson finished third in the opener with Owen Miller of Emporia, Va. and Dustin Storm of Huntington, Md. rounded out the top five finishers.

Jason Dickerson of Ruckersville, Va., Dude Gibbs of Seaford, Va., Brandon Butler of Sutherland, Va. Josh Oakley of Rougemont, N.C. and Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C. completed the top ten finishers.

McCaskill started third, overtook Miller, who started on the outside pole, on the tenth lap and spent the rest of the race trying to keep pace with Ramsey. A caution flag on lap 26 gave McCaskill the opportunity he needed but Ramsey was able to pull away in the late stages of the race and open up a cushion.

Meanwhile, Johnson, who started sixth, was busy working his way through traffic. He passed Miller for third place on lap 29 and that was as far up the ladder as he could get.

Ramsey averaged 78.543 mph in the race that took just over 25 minutes to complete.

Johnson started on the pole in the second race, took the lead at the outset but lost the spot to Ramsey on the first lap. Johnson hounded Ramsey for a while before taking the lead for good on lap 37. Once in front, Johnson led the final 39 circuits and held off Ramsey by .351 second to win the caution-free race.

McCaskill finished third with Gibbs racing from his seventh starting position to take fourth place. Oakley rounded out the top five finishers with his first top-five finish of the season here.

Miller, Butler, Storm, Cook and Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va. rounded out the top ten finishers.

Johnson averaged 86.460 mph in the race that took 21 minutes and 16 seconds to complete.

Anderson Wins Limited Sportsman Race
Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. started on the pole and led all the way in winning the 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division race. The win by the two-time defending division champion was his third win of the season.

Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C. started fourth and raced his way to second place, taking the spot away from George Spencer of Halifax, Va. on the 20th lap and remaining the rest of the race. A caution on lap 27 closed up the field and put Pulliam in position for an opportunity to make a run at Anderson. Anderson got a good start on the restart and was able to open up a small lead on Pulliam. Pulliam closed the gap in the last 10 laps but Anderson had enough to edge Pulliam by .514 second.

Spencer, driving a Chevrolet out of the Halifax County (Va.) Motorsports Academy stable, finished third, fending off Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va. for the spot in the closing laps. Brian Pembelton of Amelia, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.
Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va., Jan Velez of Quaynabo, Puerto Rico, Timothy Watkins of Angier, N.C., Greg DeJarnette of Gladys, Va. and Joey Throckmorton of Scottsburg, Va. rounded out the top ten finishers.

Milam Wins Pure Stock Race
Jarrett Milam of Ringgold, Va. took the lead from Michael Jones of South Boston, Va. on the tenth lap and held on the rest of the way to win the 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

Milam, the pole winner, started fifth after the drawing for the invert for the start of the race but quickly raced his way to the front, gaining second place by the third lap. A caution on the ninth lap closed up the field with Jones leading the race and Milam needed only one lap to get past Jones and take the lead.

Jones finished second with Joe Allred III of Scottsburg, Va., Courtney Crosby of Scottsburg, Va. and Quain Moore of Callands, Va. rounding out the top five finishers in the race that saw the lead swap hands twice among three drivers.
West Wins INEX Legends Cars Series Race

Sparky West of Hampton, Va. took the lead from Christian PaHud of Harrisburg, N.C. on the 18th lap and sped to victory in the 25-lap race for the INEX Legends Cars Series.

Cameron Patrick of Williamsburg, Va., Brad Hancock of Newport News, Va. and Derek Hopkinson of Toms River, N.J. rounded out the top five finishers.

Next Race At South Boston Speedway
The next race at South Boston Speedway comes up on Saturday night, July 26 with the running of the Southside Virginia Community College 150. Six races are on tap that night with a 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division headlining the action. A race for the Limited Sportsman Division, twin races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, a race for the Yellow Book USA Southern Vintage Modified Division and a race for the competitors in the INEX Legends Cars Series are also included on the night’s schedule.

Pit gates will open at 1 p.m. and practice will go from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will begin at 5:15 p.m. The first race will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 7-12. Kids ages 6 and under will be admitted free. Youth must be accompanied by a paid adult in order to receive the discounted admission price.

The rain date is Sunday afternoon, July 27, at 2 p.m.
