Johnson Wins Fourth in a Row, Takes Over Points Lead

Monday July 14, 2008

Nashville, TN, July 11, 2008- Another exciting night of racing at the historic Music City Motorplex saw Mt. Juliet’s Andy Joh nson take home his fourth consecutive NASCAR Late Model win of the 2008 season and jump to the top of the points standings on Double Points Night.

Johnson and Michael House started on the front row as the NASCAR Late Models took part in a 50 lap shootout. Johnson quickly pulled away from the field and proved that even after a week off he still had the car to beat, leading from the green flag to the checkered.

Only one caution flag flew during the race, when the car of Tony Ussery spun with eleven laps to go, bringing the field back to Johnson’s bumper and setting up a shootout between Johnson and House for the win. Although House kept it close and made several attempts to get around Johnson, the No. 20 proved to be too strong and held on for the win. House, Chevy White of Columbia, Bowling Green ’s Bo Miller, and Clarksville’s Mark Day rounded out the top five.

In his second Motorplex start of the year, Columbia’s Sterling Marlin finished eighth

Cane Ridge’s Daniel Bolden took home his second win of the year in the NASCAR Super Truck division. Bolden jumped to the lead at the drop of the green flag, but a wreck involving Allen Carter, Terry Hayes and Clint Crowell forced another restart. The result was the same however, as Bolden again grabbed the lead and took off from the rest of the field. With his win, Bolden moved up to fourth place in the points race.

After a dominating run from his tenth place starting spot to victory lane by Larry Ryman, his truck was disqualified. Bobby Buttrey, Blake Williams, Jess Williams and Terry Hayes rounded out the top five. Points leader Daniel Victory finished in seventh, but kept his place atop the points standings.

In the NASCAR Grand National division, after several weeks of running well Jeffrey Belt finally got his first win of the year. It was a two man race for most of the night as Lee Goddard started on the pole and ran right on the rear bumper of Belt for the duration of the race. By the halfway point, the top two had a half straightaway lead over the third place car of Wayne White. Goddard tried to put the bumper to Belt and make the pass in the closing laps, but somehow Belt managed to keep control of the 02 car and hang on for the win. Goddard had a good night in the points with his second place finish. Points leader Wayne White finished third, Howard Tucker was fourth and Eddie Taylor finish ed fifth after starting in the rear of the field.

Racing continues at the Music City Motorplex’s 50th Anniversary Season July 18-20, with exciting events happening all three days. For additional information, please contact the Music City Motorplex office at (615) 726-1818 or visit www.musiccitymotorplex.com
