Toliver tags No. 6 in Seattle qualifying
Sunday July 20, 2008
KENT, Wash. (July 19, 2008) – Jerry Toliver qualified the Rockstar Energy Drink Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car in the top half of the field for the 21st annual NHRA Nationals at Pacific Raceways. Toliver posted an elapsed time of 4.095 seconds at 303.98 mph to nail down the No. 6 position racing to the 1000-ft. finish line for the second straight event. It was the fourth time this year that Toliver has qualified in the top half of the 16-car field.
The racing conditions went from cool and overcast when pro qualifying began on Friday to sunny and warm during Saturday’s two rounds. Toliver’s other qualifying efforts included a 4.138/298.73 (No. 9) on Friday, and a 5.583/113.78 (No. 6) and a 6.237/107.14 (No. 6) on Saturday.
“I feel good,” said Toliver. “I think the Rockstar Energy Drink Dodge turned the corner this weekend. The Rockstar Energy Drink boys found something with the setup that seems to be working. Our 60-ft. and 330-ft. times have been good, so we’re feeling very confident that tomorrow we can hopefully go some rounds.
“We’ve got Gary Densham in the first round, but he’s just another guy in the other lane when it comes down to racing. We’ll just take them one at a time tomorrow. We’re excited about going racing here in Seattle.”
Toliver will have lane choice over No. 11 qualifier Densham in round one of eliminations on Sunday.
