McCaskill Picks Up Second Win At South Boston Speedway

Sunday July 27, 2008

SOUTH BOSTON, VA……Deac McCaskill started on the pole and scored a flag-to-flag win in the 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division that highlighted Saturday night’s Southside Virginia Community College 150 racing program here at South Boston Speedway.

The win was McCaskill’s second victory of the season at South Boston Speedway and the pole win was his first pole win of the season.

McCaskill held off division points leader, Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va., in a 46-lap sprint to the finish that followed the last of the race’s six caution periods. His margin of victory was 2.593 seconds.

Justin Johnson of Durham, NC finished third with Dustin Storm of Huntington, MD and Ronald Hill of Rougemont, NC rounding out the top five finishers.

Dude Gibbs of Seaford, VA, Jon Denning of Springfield, NJ, Brandon Butler of Sutherland, VA, Owen Miller of Emporia, VA and Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, VA completed the top ten finishers.

Ramsey kept the pressure on McCaskill in the early going with the help of four caution periods in the first 50 laps of the race. There was a time right after the race went back to green for the final time that Ramsey appeared to have a shot at McCaskill. McCaskill, however, was strong enough to fend off Ramsey’s challenge and hold on for the win.

While Ramsey finished second, he was able to increase his points lead over Johnson by two points, extending his lead to an unofficial 15-point margin.
McCaskill averaged 65.336 mph in the race that took 55 minutes and 24 seconds to complete.

With the last 27 laps of the race run under green, Anderson fended off a bid from runner-up Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, VA and edged Peregoy by .675-second at the finish.

Brian Pembelton of Amelia, VA, Lee Pulliam of Semora, NC and Steve Collins of Clover, VA, driving an entry out of the Halifax County (VA) Motorsports Academy, rounded out the top five finishers.

Anderson averaged 44.501 mph in the race that was slowed by three caution periods.

Milam Sweeps Twin Pure Stock Races
Jarrett Milam of Ringgold, VA had a double dose of fun Saturday night, sweeping the pair of 30-lap races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

The wins ran Milam’s win streak to three races in a row.

Milam started fifth in the first race and sped past Joey Throckmorton of Scottsburg, VA on the 10th lap to take the lead. Once in front, Milam was not seriously challenged enroute to the win.

In the nightcap, Milam started seventh, took the lead from Courtney Crosby of Scottsburg, VA on the 13th lap and held on the rest of the way to complete the sweep.

Rookie Michael Jones of South Boston, VA finished second in both races. Throckmorton finished third in the first race and was followed by Justin Tucker of Elon, NC and Crosby.

In the second race, Crosby finished third behind Jones with Throckmorton and division points leader, Joe Allred of Scottsburg, VA completing the top five finishers.
