Sun Prairie, Wisconsin (Wednesday, August 20, 2008): NASCAR Camping
World East Series Sunoco Racing Fuel Rookie of the Year title
contender, Derek Thorn has had an adventurous 2008 racing season to
date.

His adventures will certainly get quite busy over the next weekend as
the Lakeport, California driver will pull double duty over the
upcoming weekend of August 22-24, 2008 in two different cars in two
different series’, and in two different states, an ode to Kyle Busch
if you will, but on a smaller scale.

Thorn will kick off the weekend with the NASCAR Camping World East
Series this Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Mansfield Motorsports Park in
Mansfield, Ohio for the running of the Mansfield 150.

After Mansfield, Thorn will head up to what is now his home state of
Wisconsin and to the most famed facility in the state, the Milwaukee
Mile as the 22-year-old will return to the ASA Late Model Series
Challenge Division in the Governors Cup 150.

“This double duty weekend is going to be tough, I’m going to owe to
our entire team as well as our sponsors, Paul Davis Restorations,
Racinforacure.com, Lucas Oil, All-Rite Home and Remodeling, Hellerman
Titan big time,” Laughed Thorn. “We’re going to be in the backyards of
many of our sponsors including the ALS Association Milwaukee Chapter
on Sunday”

As for Thorn’s NASCAR Camping World East Season to date, his last
NASCAR Camping World East race was the most rewarding of his brief
NASCAR career as he scored a career high fifth place finish in the
Strutmasters.com 150 at the famed Music City Motorplex in Nashville,
Tennessee back on July 19th.

Heading into Mansfield and despite not making the trip to the last two
events at Adirondack (NY) and Lime Rock Park (CT), Thorn is Seventh in
the chase for the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year title and 23rd
overall in the season long points chase.

“Just coming off our teams first Top Five in the Camping World Series
is carrying a lot of confidence heading into Mansfield for our entire
team,” The now Sun Prairie, Wisconsin resident continued. “We’ve had a
month off and are ready to get back on the track.”

After Mansfield is complete, Thorn will make the trip up to West
Allis, Wisconsin located West of Milwaukee to take part in his first
ASALMS Challenge Division race in over three months; The Governors Cup
150.

Since qualifying is on Saturday while Thorn is racing in Mansfield,
2007 ASALMS Northern Division Rookie of the Year, Jesse Saunders will
qualify the car for the Racinforacure.com team and when Thorn gets to
the track on Sunday, he’ll have to start at the rear of the field at
the historic one mile semi-banked paved oval.

“We’ve been absent from ASALMS for a few months (Since Iowa Speedway
back on May 17th) but I’m looking forward to making our return at the
Milwaukee Mile. Pathfinder Chassis and Chad Wood have run really well
there in the past and am confident we’ll have a good running car.” He
said.

“Paul Davis Restoration has been a huge help to this Shawn Keep Inc.,
Racinforacure.com team so far this season. Now in the last half of the
season to have them coming aboard to be our Primary Sponsors for this
weekends races at Mansfield, Ohio in the NASCAR Camping World Series
and the ASALMS race at the Milwaukee Mile is a great partnership.”
Thorn remarked.

“As a driver I look forward to working with Paul Davis Restoration,
and hope we can work together in climbing the ever difficult NASCAR
ladder.” He ended.

At every event Thorn races in this season, whether its in the NASCAR
Camping World East Series or in the ASALMS, the RACINFORACURE.com team
will always have an honorary pit crew member that has been diagnosed
with ALS sitting alongside the team in the pits.

Our staff will be giving away a free T-Shirt to the reader who makes the best post in our Frontstretch Forum between now and the end of the season. So, what makes a good post? It’s pretty hard to impress us, but here are some things we are looking for:

Does your post spark passionate reactions from other readers? Are you commenting on meaningful NASCAR-related events? Do your posts have substance? In other words, “Dale Jr. is the best driver ever” or “Danica Patrick is hot” will not cut it.

So go to the Frontstretch Forums, post early, post often, and post well! We’ll announce the winner following the final race of the season at Homestead.
