Wimmer Keeps Streak Alive; Gets Set for the Milwaukee Mile

August 19, 2008. Sunday at Raceway Park in Shakopee, MN Chris Wimmer kept his top-five streak alive, making it three in a row. “It’s been nice to be running so well lately,” says Wimmer, “The car seems to really be coming along and it’s always exciting when you can run up front.”

Wimmer qualified 8th for the Shakopee 100. At lap 25 Wimmer’s #52 was holding solidly in the sixth position and then by the halfway point worked his way up to 5th, where he finished. “At Shakopee it’s really hard to pass,” says Wimmer, “Everyone wants to run the bottom groove and in order to pass someone you have to go up high, but when you do that you actually loose almost three tenths of a second, so you need to be really good and really fast to make any passes.”

Wimmer currently sits 7th in the ASA Midwest Tour points, but is just 25 points out of third. “As they’ve been all season the points are so close, “says Wimmer, “Especially now that we’re hitting kind of the final stretch, everyone wants to race well and move up in the points. If we keep running like we are, we should hopefully be able to move up.”

Wimmer and the ASAMT are currently in the middle of a stretch of four consecutive weekends of racing. This week the tour heads to the Milwaukee Mile, where drivers must conquer the biggest track they’ll race on all year. “I like Milwaukee,” says Wimmer, “I’ve raced there quite a bit and I like the bigger tracks. It’ll be nice to go from Shakopee, a place where it was hard to pass, to Milwaukee where it should be pretty easy if you have a good car.

Fans are sure to get their fill of racing at The Mile this weekend. Joining the ASAMT will be a few other race series, making for a packed weekend of track action. Saturday the ASA North Series races 100 laps and then Sunday the ASA Challenge Series takes the track for a 150 lap feature followed by the ASA Midwest Tour’s 100 lap feature.

NASCAR Spring Cup drivers Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch will join the ASAMT for the ASA All-Star 100 Sunday. Tickets should be purchased in advance, but can also be purchased at the gate.
