Ford Customer Service Division to Unveil Winning JDRF Paint Scheme in Downtown Indianapolis

Wednesday August 27, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS, IND, Aug. 27, 2008 – After three months of excited anticipation, Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD) will unveil the winning, JDRF-inspired paint scheme that will adorn the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang Funny Car for this weekend’s NHRA U.S. Nationals.

The official unveiling of the new scheme, and the announcement of the winning JDRF child designer, will come in a special ceremony in Indianapolis’ downtown Monument Circle at noon, Thursday, Aug. 28.

The unveiling will cap a three-month, on-line contest, sponsored by FCSD that raised more than $84,000 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and which featured more than 300 paint scheme entries from JDRF kids around the country.

“We’re extremely excited to be showing off the new paint scheme that will be featured on our Mustang Funny Car this weekend,” said Al Giombetti, executive director, Ford Customer Service Division. Giombetti will be on hand in Indianapolis tomorrow to unveil the car with the winning child and their parents.

“We at Ford have been very involved in a lot of unique ways of raising money for JDRF over the years, so we decided that this was a great opportunity to use a national stage like NHRA drag racing to help create awareness for JDRF and the great work they do in trying to find a cure for type 1 diabetes,” said Giombetti.

“Our management, and people like Edsel Ford II, have committed a lot of time and effort to help JDRF. We’re pleased we could use our NHRA Funny Car effort … at the sport’s biggest race … to raise more than $84,000 for JDRF, and just as importantly, give the cause national exposure. I think everyone is going to be excited when they see the winning design.”

“When Ford Motor Company’s customer service division approached us about donating one of their paint schemes to JDRF earlier this year, we were thrilled,” said Gina Roche-Kelly, senior account manager, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Ford Global Walk Team. “JDRF has had a long relationship with Ford Motor Company, and to be able to partner with FCSD in this fun and creative way to help raise funds and awareness for type 1 diabetes and at the same time provide a one-of-kind opportunity to JDRF families is really exciting for us.”

Joining Giombetti at the unveiling will be representatives from JDRF, as well as the Tasca Racing team.
