With Another Eriez Speedway Victory In His Back Pocket, Mike Knight Looks Ahead To Big Holiday Weekend In Western Pennsylvania
Saturday August 30, 2008
RIPLEY, NY – Mike Knight is rolling at Eriez Speedway.
The 21-year-old from Ripley, N.Y., registered his second straight and fifth overall victory on Sunday night at the one-third-mile oval in Hammett, Pa., dominating the 25-lap Super Late Model feature.
Coming off his biggest win ever in the previous week’s Independent Racing Series 50 at Eriez, Knight drove his Rocket No. 9K forward from the third starting to take the lead early in the event. He survived one momentary misstep en route to a convincing triumph.
“I made one mistake on the cushion and lost the lead,” said Knight, who sits third in Eriez’s points standings despite not entering every show this season. “But I had a real good car and just got back up on the wheel to get the lead back.
“We really have Eriez figured out right now. Our car is working real good there.”
Knight wasn’t quite as tuned in to The Rock/Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, Md., last Friday night. He finished eighth in the evening’s 50-lap IRS feature after starting 17th.
“We had some engine issues during qualifying that set us back,” Knight said of his first-ever visit to Allegany County. “But we got those resolved and I was able to move up through there to finish eighth. That actually was a pretty good run for us considering we picked the wrong tires.”
Knight, who is sixth in the IRS points standings, has a big weekend ahead of him in western Pennsylvania. He’ll start it off by entering Friday night’s Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) event at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., and then attack the two-day World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Oil Region Labor Day Classic’ on Saturday and Sunday nights at Tri-City Speedway in Franklin, Pa.
An up-and-coming dirt Late Model driver whose breakout 2007 season was highlighted by a points title at Eriez Speedway, Knight has an ambitious schedule of 70-plus races across the region planned
