LaVernia, Texas (Wednesday, September 3, 2008): Cody Smith now knows
that there’s nothing like coming back home. The familiarity of family
and friends was just the medicine that he needed to get back to
victory lane after two seasons away from it.
The now 19-year-old (On August 17th) from LaVernia, Texas returned to
his roots and raced in the Texas Super Racing Series over the Labor
Day Weekend at Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, Texas and made the most of
his appearance by winning the Back To School 75, sponsored by the
H-E-B store located at William Cannon Drive/Brodie Lane in Austin!
The 2006 TSRS Rookie of the Year and Overall Runner-up started on the
pole of the 75-lap feature after Qualifying third. The Top Six (6)
then redrew for starting positions and Smith drew the “1” pill and
would lead the field to the green flag along-side Leander, Texas
driver Chris Schild
After a thrilling battle with Schild and then later with Fast
Qualifier, Heath Stewart over the last 2/3s of the race, Smith fended
off the advances of the Del Valle, Texas veteran to score his first
TSRS Feature since the 2006 season.
“That was real exciting to take on seasoned veterans like Heath
Stewart, Chris Schild, and Robert Barker,” the excited Lone Star State
teenager stated. “A couple races ago I was behind Stewart and working
on his back bumper, but decided to show him respect and not get into
him, he repaid the favor this time around and showed that same respect
back.”
After Stewart got around Schild for second on Lap 19, Stewart gave
Smith all he could handle for the remainder of the race, looking high
and low, trying to figure out a way around the 19-year-old. “I just
kept running my line and trying to stick to it. When I had the lead my
adrenaline was running high; my crew helped keep me calm throughout
the race.” Smith explained.
“This is what I like about racing with those who respect each other,”
Continued the LaVernia, Texas driver. “I need to thank my sponsors for
everything they have done for me this year. RTM Construction Company,
Terry James at TRC Race Cars, Spreen Racing Engines, and Screen Pro
Graphics. I also want to thank everyone on my team.” He ended.
The next race on the Cody Smith Racing Schedule is at Houston
Motorsports Park in Houston, Texas for the Trucks Driver America
Terrier Transportation FREE Night featuring FREE General Admission!
Smith will be racing in the tracks weekly ASA Racing Pro Late Models
division.
In addition to running select races within the Texas Super Racing
Series, Smith will also be attending the remainder of the ASA Late
Model Series Southern Division events as well as local events back in
his home state of Texas at Thunder Hill Raceway in Kyle, Texas and at
Houston Motorsports Park in Houston, Texas.
Smith is running with limited sponsorship from RTM Construction
Company as well as TRC Race Cars, Spreen Racing Engines, Screen Pro
