50th Anniversary Season Champions Crowned at Music City Motorplex

Nashville, Tenn – On a night that featured the greatest drivers in Middle Tennessee battling around the track for the honor of being crowned track champion at the historic Music City Motorplex, fans in attendance witnessed some of the best racing of the 50th Anniversary season.
The NASCAR Late Models capped off the 2008 season with one of the most exciting races of the year, featuring the 2008 Track Champion Andy Johnson battling side by side with Columbia’s Chevy White from the drop of the green to the checkered flag. Johnson quickly jumped to the lead of the fifty lap feature event, holding off until the closing laps, where White was finally able to get around Johnson for the lead and the win. White was followed by Willie Allen of Bon Aqua, TN, Johnson, Columbia’s Sterling Marlin and Nashville’s Michael Driskell in the top five.
Johnson took his first NASCAR Late Model Championship with seven wins, seventeen top five and eighteen top ten finishes this season.
It was a good night in the NASCAR Super Trucks division if your name happened to=2 0be Daniel. Smyrna’s Daniel Victory wrapped up his second consecutive NASCAR Super Truck championship, while Daniel Bolden of Cane Ridge won his third race of the year. Bolden led from flag to flag to secure the win, followed by Jess Williams of Hickory Flat, MS, Hermitage’s Terry Hayes, Fairview’s Bobby Buttrey and Tommy Climer of Murfreesboro. Victory finished his championship season with six wins, fourteen top five and seventeen top ten finishes.
Although Nashville’s Lee Goddard had already secured the 2008 NASCAR Grand National Championship, Jeffrey Belt made sure there was plenty of action, as his hot streak in the Grand National division continued, setting a new track record for the second week in a row and winning the thirty lap feature event. Lee Goddard wrapped up his championship season with a strong second place finish, followed by Wayne White, who took second place in the final championship standings from Eddie Taylor who had a tough night and finished thirteenth. Howard Tucker and Jeremy Adams rounded out the top five. Goddard won his first Grand National Championship with three victories, eighteen top five and eighteen top ten finishes.
Jeremy Ne wman of Old Hickory, TN had a three-point lead over Smyrna’s Dale Travis heading into the final Thunderstox race of the year. Travis managed to recover from an incident early in the race to finish sixth, one spot ahead of Newman and win the 2008 Thunderstox championship. Kyle Ivey won the twenty lap shootout, followed by Charles Goddard, Jr., Clint Ivey, Matt Barnes and CJ Adams. Travis finished his impressive championship season with four wins, ten top fives and thirteen top tens.
For the first time in Motorplex history, father and son have won track championships in the same year. Brandon Summers won the 2008 Legends Semi-Pro division championship, while his father Kenny secured the Legends Masters championship. Brandon finished the season with six wins, thirteen top five and fourteen top ten finishes. Consistency was the key to Kenny Summers’ championship season, as he finished with four top fives and fourteen top tens.
Nashville’s Rob Sanders secured the 2008 Legends Pro championship with a hard fought win over Nashville’s Kevin Rollins in their twenty lap event. Tyler Cordell, Tyler Slayden and Kenny Summers rounded out the top five. Sanders closed out his championship season with six wins,20thirteen top five and fourteen top ten finishes.
Ricky McIlwain of Antioch, TN continued his season long domination of the Dwarf division, winning the 2008 championship and his seventh event of the year. Greg Gresham of Franklin, TN made an impressive charge from his thirteenth starting spot to finish second, followed by Allen Ring, David Ring and Don Walls, Jr in the top five.
In the Bandolero Young Guns division, Sean Hosey secured his first championship by holding off Larua Gentry in the final laps of their fifteen lap event. Layne Clifton swept the day’s events, winning both the feature and the Bandolero Bandits divison championship.
