Auto City - Season Closer

Sunday October 5, 2008

The 2008 season came to a close on Saturday, October 4th as Auto City ran the “Wild One” including a Figure-8 invitational and the Wolverine Midgets.

Dallas Melby came all the way from Ravensdale, WA and set fast time for the midgets with a 15.132 on the 1/2 mile. Heat race wins when to Mike Fedorczek and David Byrne. In the 25-lap feature Pat Wilda jumped out in front but his engine went sour on lap 2. Byrne took over the top spot and the Shullsburg, WI driver stayed ahead to take the victory. Melby finished second followed by Fedorczek, Doug Dietsch, who sewed up the season championship, and Todd Rutledge.

Chris Stearns had quick time for the Factory Stocks with a 15.09, while Nick Lechota won the heat. In the feature Adam Rowe jumped ahead with the field battling behind him. On the last lap Stearns worked his way underneath the leader, and nosed out Rowe at the finish line for the win. Rounding out the top 5 were Lechota, Jim Miller and Jay Woolworth.

In the Led Sleds, Stearns pulled double duty and had fast time for the Led Sleds with a 16.54. Track champ Lonnie Saumier, Jr. won the dash while heat race winners were Rob Clark and Andrew Burton. Burton took the early lead in the feature and held it for 8 laps. Then the “Chicknhawk” Charlie Thom took over the top spot but Saumier took over on lap 13 and he hung on for the win. Chad Lamson was second followed by Thom, Nick Johnston and Stearns.

It was Jake Thompson’s night in the Hornets, he had fast time with a 17.31, won the heat race and then took the feature. Ryan Shelton was second followed by Jacob Collick, Andrew Shelton and Dalton Irish.

In the Figure-8 race, Craig Bastien led the first 2 laps until Nick Lechota got by. Lechota was pulling away until lap 8 when Andrew Burton broad sided him in the intersection, ending the night for both drivers. That gave the lead to Jim MIller, Jr. who led the rest of the way for the win. Jerry Atwell was second followed by Charlie Thom, Jeff Stinson and Scott Beach.

The staff and management would like to thank the fans, crews and drivers for a great 2008. For info on the banquet or for next season call 810-686-9500 or go online at www.autocityspeedway.com.
