Sixth Place Finish For Townley in ARCA / RE/MAX Series Finale At Toledo

Monday October 13, 2008

CONCORD, NC (10/13/08) As the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series season came to a close Sunday afternoon at Toledo Speedway , John Wes Townley and the No. 09 RAB Racing team had every reason to walk away with a smile. Along with taking home another top-ten in Sunday’s Hantz Group 200 by Belle Tire and Federated Car Care, Townley also walked away with his best short-track finish of the season, sixth.

The 18-year-old, Watkinsville, GA native started the 200-lap event in the 21st position but quickly became victim of an ill-handling race car and began losing positions early on.

After a pit stop at lap 84 to resolve an over- heating problem, Townley began to pick off positions one by one. With patient driving by Townley to avoid numerous wrecks and 12 cautions periods accounting for 83 laps, the team was able to walk away with a solid top-10 finish.

“We battled with the performance of the race car early on. After a few pit stops for adjustments we finally got it to where I felt comfortable,” stated Townley. This was definitely a caution-filled event and staying out of trouble helped us capitalize on track position which was great. It was one of those days where we persevered and brought home the best finish we could. I am really proud of my guys.”

As a SunTrust Rookie of the Year contender in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, this sixth place finish marked the second top-five, ninth top-10 and 15th top-15 of the season for RAB Racing and John Wes Townley. RAB Racing and Townley also finished seventh in both the ARCA RE/MAX Series owner and driver’s Championship point standings.

“I’m excited to be finishing seventh in points,” continued Townley. It was my first year in the ARCA RE/MAX Series and I feel like this was definitely a learning experience for me and I feel like I have grown as a person and a driver.”

John Wes Townley will continue to pilot the No. 09 Zaxby’s/SPS Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for the remainder of the 2008 season including; Memphis, Texas, Phoenix and Homestead.

Next up for RAB Racing is the Kroger on Track for the Cure 250 presented by the Southern Dodge Dealers at Memphis Motorsports Park. Live coverage of the event will be televised on ESPN Classic Saturday, October 25, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The race will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) at 3:30 p.m. EDT.
