Kyle Fowler Set To Take On Stacked Snowflake 100 Field
Sunday November 30, 2008
CONCORD, NC (November 26, 2008) – As Super Late Model teams flock to the Florida Panhandle for the 41st Annual Snowball Derby, so do the Pro Late Model teams. So many, in fact, that chances are a full field of talented youngsters will sit out the Allen Turner Snowflake 100, which is the build-up race to the Snowball Derby. Kyle Fowler was good enough to run in the event that saw 67 entries a year ago. Fowler will be gunning for a solid finish in his second attempt at the Five Flags Speedway (FL) event.
“We’re ready, and we think we have a good shot,” said Fowler. “We have run down there once this season, and we felt really good about how the car ran. It would be really cool if we could get a win or have a good finish.”
Last year, Fowler learned his way around the tracks of the Southeast in the Georgia Asphalt Series. Fowler went to Pensacola last year as a rookie. He made the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 and finished 14th. Fowler ran in the top five during the early part of the race. That experience, along with what they have learned in 2008, should make them a contender right off the truck.
“We have really progressed a good bit this season,” said Fowler. “We have had a lot of good runs. We have learned a lot about fine tuning the setup with the help of Mike Garvey. We have really worked on tire conservation. Last year, we could get a car fast for 50 laps; then it would fade off. Mr. Garvey has helped us to be able to be there at the end of the race.”
With the addition of Mike Garvey helping with the setup, Fowler will have some help in the pits as well. Super Late Model owner Bob Dillner of SPEED-TV will have his BDI Racing team pitting Fowler’s car during the Snowflake 100. It should provide an extra boost to have an experienced crew going over the wall to service his Late Model. Fowler knows how big the race is and that you have to use everything to your advantage.
“It’s a very competitive race,” added Fowler. “That’s why it’s the Super Bowl of Short Track racing. Guys come from all over… from Texas to North Carolina, from Tennessee and all around the Midwest. It’s a big deal, and making the race means a lot with the number of entries.”
The weeklong festivities of the Snowball Derby will kick off on December 3rd with practice from both Pro and Super Late Models. The Allen Turner Snowflake 100 will be on December 6th with the Snowball Derby on December 7th.
