Eat A Martinsville Speedway Hot Dog And Make Christmas Better For Youngsters
Sunday November 30, 2008
After a brief absence, Martinsville Speedway’s Toy Drive is back with a new look, but the same goal: providing a bright Christmas for many youngsters in Martinsville and Henry County.
And the new formula is simple: famous Martinsville Speedway hot dogs plus laps around the historic Martinsville half-mile should equal lots of Christmas smiles.
The Martinsville Speedway staff will be making and serving the world famous Martinsville Speedway hot dogs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 12. All it takes is a monetary or toy donation to snare a couple of the tasty dogs.
And, if you’ve got a taste for excitement, donate a toy and you can drive your car around the track…at a safe speed, of course. The drive-arounds will be during the evening session only.
“With the economy the way it is, our staff decided we needed to do something to reach out to our community,” said Martinsville Speedway president Clay Campbell. “We’ve reinvented our Toy Drive and we think it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.”
For the first segment of the Toy Drive, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Speedway staff members, including Campbell, will be preparing hot dogs just outside of the main ticket office. Anyone donating a new, unwrapped toy or making a monetary contribution will be able to enjoy the near mythical wieners without charge.
The second half of the Toy Drive, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., will be held in the infield. Those donating either a new, unwrapped toy or money will again get free Martinsville Speedway hot dogs, but this time they will get to drive their personal vehicle around the track. They will also get a free ticket to Pole Day for the Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 on March 27.
“We think this is going to be a real treat for so many fans, driving around the track,” Campbell said of the track’s 12th toy drive. “It’s a great opportunity for fans to have some fun while helping out a lot of youngsters in our community.
The Grace Network will distribute the collected toys to families in need. The monetary donations will be used to purchase toys. All of the toys will remain in the Martinsville and Henry County area.
The evening portion of the Toy Drive will be a festive Christmas affair with Christmas music played over the track’s public address system and Christmas videos shown on the track’s new video scoreboard.
