Drama Filled Racing Continues at SSP on Saturday, April 25

Newberrytown, PA (April 22, 2009) – This Saturday night, April 25 the on and off track racing drama at the Susquehanna Speedway Park will continue. Racing action will include the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Legends Cars and Road Warriors. Saturday night will also mark the first appearance of the season for the Legends Cars and Road Warriors.
The Hometown Heroes program will recognize all SSP drivers from Carlisle, Newville and Elizabethtown. Before the racing action begins, the drivers from these town will have the opportunity to display their cars and meet the fans at the front gate of the speedway. The drivers will also be interviewed during the night’s racing program. Also, all fans entering the speedway from that driver’s hometown being honored will be admitted FREE to the grandstands by showing proper photo identification and filling out an information card at the ticket booth.
Last Saturday night’s SSP racing action Justin Ehrhart of Dover collecting his first Late Model victory of the season. Chambersburg’s Doug Bennett won the 20-lap Street Stock main feature event. Spring Grove’s Mike Zeigler Jr. continued his win streak by winning his third consecutive feature (dating back to the last race of 2008) in the highly competitive Xtreme Stock Car class. Dover’s Mike Lomman was victorious in the XSC Rookie Rumble. John DuRussell won the Mini Van feature and Paul Bacchus dominated the PENNMAR Vintage Car division.
This will be the final event in which the lineups will be determined by a pre-race pill draw for the Late Models, Street Stocks and Xtreme Stocks. Handicapping will begin on Saturday, May 2 for these divisions.
Carlisle’s Carl Billet will continue his “Drive for 50” this weekend as well. Billet currently has 48 career feature wins at the Newberrytown oval and is the all-time feature win leader for the track. Last Saturday, Billet driving the Leinbach Motorsports #NINEX was involved in a five car accident in his heat race on the first lap leaving many drivers unhappy with Billet.
Although the first four heat races of the evening (two Street Stock and two Late Models) took almost an hour and a half to complete, the entire racing program wad completed at 9:34 p.m. (just over three and a half hours).
Windsor’s Sam Rial will look to continue his “Ironman Streak” of consecutive Xtreme Stock Car feature event starts this weekend. His streak is currently at 98 consecutive starts.
A pair of Dover drivers sit atop the Late Model points battle tied for the lead – Justin Ehrhart and Charles Potts.
Last weekend’s Street Stock feature winner Doug Bennett of Chambersburg had to battle an ill-handling car while holding of stiff challenges for the lead from both Scott Thunberg and Chad Smith.
The usually caution-filled Xtreme Stock main event went non-stop in the 20-lap feature last week with side-by-side action all over the track. This has been by far the most competitive division this season although Thomasville’s Mike Zeigler Jr. looks to expand his win streak to four this weekend.
On Saturday night, racing action begins at 6:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m. and the grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for the Season Opener on Saturday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $12.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $10.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $22.00 with a reduced price of $20.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
The popular “Repeat Fan Discount” program will continue at SSP in 2009 for the sixth straight season. This is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located midway between Harrisburg and York off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south.
