Free Admission at SSP This Saturday for Lewisberry, Etters and New Cumberland Residents

Excitement-Filled Racing Continues at SSP on Saturday, May 2
Free Admission for All Residents of Lewisberry, Etters and New Cumberland

Newberrytown, PA (April 28, 2009) – This Saturday night, May 2, the on and off track racing excitement at the Susquehanna Speedway Park will continue. Racing action will include the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Legends Cars and Road Warriors. Saturday night will also mark the second appearance of the season for the Legends Cars and Mini Vans.

The Hometown Heroes program will recognize all SSP drivers from Lewisberry, Etters and New Cumberland. Before the racing action begins, the drivers from these town will have the opportunity to display their cars and meet the fans at the front gate of the speedway. The drivers will also be interviewed during the night’s racing program. Also, all fans entering the speedway from that driver’s hometown being honored will be admitted FREE to the grandstands by showing proper photo identification and filling out an information card at the ticket booth.

In only his third start of the his first full season of Late Model racing, East Berlin’s Scott Fisher picked up the 20-lap feature victory at the Susquehanna Speedway Park last Saturday night. Craig Morgan of Halifax also made his way to vicory lane winning the 20-lap Street Stock main feature event. Spring Grove resident, Mike Zeigler Jr.’s three race win streak ended as Lancaster’s Ray Broderick won an exciting 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature. Dover’s Curtis Shue was victorious in the XSC Rookie Rumble. Frank Polimeda of Fort Lee (NJ) collected the 15-lap Legends Cars main event. New Oxford’s Roy Denike won the inaugural Road Warrior feature event.

Handicapping will begin this Saturday, May 2 for these the Late Models, Street Stocks and Xtreme Stock Cars. The pre-race pill draw will still be used for the Legends Cars and Mini Vans.

Dover’s Charles Potts moved into the early lead for the 2009 SSP Late Model track championship. Potts holds a slim four point lead over Pat Beard from Abbottstown. Although Scott Fisher ran a flawless race last weekend, both Potts and Beard were the hardest chargers late in the race finishing fourth and second respectively.

Windsor’s Sam Rial will look to finally reach the milestone of 100 consecutive Xtreme Stock Car feature event starts this weekend. His streak is currently at 99 consecutive starts. Rial came very close to winning last weekend’s feature as well by leading 13 laps of the 20-lap feature. Rial also sits in third place in the 2009 XSC track championship battle with 277 points. Mike Zeigler Jr. (286) leads Tommy Slanker (279) in second place.

Last weekend’s Street Stock feature winner Craig Morgan looked strong in his 2009 season debut by leading all 20 laps. Doug Bennett, Scott Thunberg and Eric Walker provided plenty of pressure on Morgan, but like Fisher in the Late Model feature, ran a flawless race.

In the Legends Cars season debut, a talent-laden field provided plenty of action with some of the best drivers nationally competing in one feature. Thirty-one Legends Cars filled the pits last weekend.

On Saturday night, racing action begins at 6:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m. and the grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.

General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for the Season Opener on Saturday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $12.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $10.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $22.00 with a reduced price of $20.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.

The popular “Repeat Fan Discount” program will continue at SSP in 2009 for the sixth straight season. This is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.

The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located midway between Harrisburg and York off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south.
