Palm, Jr. Victorious Saturday Night at SSP; Slanker, Snyder, Stoll and VanInwegen Also Win

Newberrytown, PA (May 30, 2009) – Jim Palm Jr. of Loysville became the sixth different winner in six races by winning the 20-lap Street Stock feature victory at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night. Tommy Slanker of York won his first of the season in the always exciting 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature. Dover’s Brent Hake was victorious in the XSC Rookie Rumble. Billy VanInwegen Jr. won the first-ever 20-lap SpeedSTRs by Tobias. John Stoll Jr. of Wellsville collected the 20-lap Four Cylinder Stock Car main event. York Haven’s Dan Snyder won the Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van feature event.

Steve Lowery grabbed the lead at the start of the Street Stock 20 lapper. Lowery held on until he relinquished the top spot to Greg Diehl on lap 5. Jim Palm Jr. took command of the race on lap 6 and led the remaining laps to win his first career SSP feature victory. Dave Thompson Jr. and George Eash pursued Palm but were unable to mount any challenge for the top spot and had to settle for second and third place. Doug Bennett made a strong charge from the back to finish fourth with Diehl rounding out the top five. Diehl and Walker won their respective qualifying heat races.

In the 20-lap Xreme Stock Car main event, polesitter Donnie Broderick grabbed the early lead. Jason Failor took command on the second lap and relinquished it to Tommy Slanker on the fourth time around. Failor regained the top spot on the low side of Slanker on the seventh lap. Slanker battled back to lead the next 10 laps with heavy pressure from behind from both Failor and Sam Rial. Rial briefly took the top spot on lap 18 and Slanker once again powered by him on the top side on the next to last circuit. Slanker held on at the end to win his first of the season followed by Rial and Failor. Travis Horan and Mike Zeigler Jr. finished fourth and fifth respectively. Jason Failor, Ray Broderick and Donnie Broderick won the XSC qualifying heat races. Brent Hake won the 15-lap XSC Rookie Rumble event.

The Four Cylinder Stock Car 20-lap feature event began with Eric Hollenbach grabbing the early lead from the pole position. His lead only lasted for two circuits as John Stoll Jr. took command on lap three and never looked back winning the race over Hollenbach. Second place finisher Hollenbach was disqualified at the scales for being underweight. This mover Troy Hostetter into the runner-up position behind Stoll. Ed Hollenbach, Henry Lesher and Dale Kreiser rounded out the top five. Ed Hollenbach and John Stoll Jr. were heat race victors.

The 10-lap Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van feature event was won by Dan Snyder with a thrilling last lap pass in turn four, besting Butch Richcreek Jr. Brian Lefebvre finished third, followed by Bill Wise Jr. and Daryl Sipe.

Billy VanInwegen Jr. led from start to finish to win the first-ever SpeedSTRs feature at SSP. Tyler Potts finished second, followed by Kyle Hieber, Don Zrinski and Doug Rose. VanInwegen Jr. and Rose won their respective qualifying heat races.

Action returns to the Susquehanna Speedway Park next weekend at the SSP Outback Track on Friday night, June 5 at 7:30 p.m. featuring quarter midget and go kart racing action. Then on Saturday night, June 6 at 7:00 p.m. the Big Track will feature the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Legends Cars and Road Warriors.

The June 6 race event will also be the “Hometown Heroes” night featuring the towns of Spring Grove, Thomasville, Felton, and Red Lion. All fans entering the speedway from that driver’s hometown being honored will be admitted FREE to the grandstands by showing proper photo identification and filling out an information card at the ticket booth. Before the races begin, the drivers from those hometowns will have the bring their cars to the frontstretch to meet the fans just before the National Anthem at 7:00 p.m.
