ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour Announces Two Schedule Changes
Sunday June 14, 2009
June 20th Race at Montgomery and July 25th Race at Monroe Affected
ATLANTA, GA (June 13, 2009) – Officials with the RC Cola / MoonPie ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour have announced a couple of schedule changes that will affect upcoming events at both Montgomery Motor Speedway in Alabama and Monroe Motor Speedway in Louisiana.
The Gateway 100 at Montgomery Motor Speedway will move from its originally scheduled date of Saturday, June 20th and will now take place on Saturday, July 25th. The Monroe Motor Speedway event that was originally scheduled for July 25th has been cancelled. At this time, the series is not planning to replace the Monroe event with another on the schedule. Stay tuned to the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour’s official website, www.asasoutheastasphalttour.com, for any additional information.
“This isn’t something that we wanted to do, but a variety of circumstances have forced us to make this decision,” said ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour Operations Manager Micky Cain. “We really want to thank the staffs of both Montgomery Motor Speedway and Monroe Motor Speedway for working with us to get all of these problems figured out. They have been more than gracious and have had the best interest of the Tour the entire time.
“Moving the Montgomery event to July will allow us to have even better coverage with the TV package for the race. We’ve got a great sponsor in Gateway Gaming and it will be an added bonus for them as well. Monroe was going to be a bit of a tight race for a lot of our teams, since it is a good haul for most of them to get to the track. And when we scheduled the race earlier in the year, gas prices were coming down and a lot of people thought the economy was on the turn around. But things are still tough and gas is going back up. It will probably be over $3 a gallon by late-July, so we don’t want our competitors to have to eat a lot of extra cost. Hopefully, next year we can schedule a race at Monroe and show our guys what a great track that is.”
Any team that has already preregistered for the Montgomery event will have their registration kept on file for the rescheduled race. Should a team not be able to make the event on July 25th due to prior commitments, they can call Cain and move their registration to another event or get a refund.
Any teams that had already registered for the Monroe event should call Cain to work out arrangements for a refund or to move their registration to another event.
The RC Cola / MoonPie ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour’s next event will now be June 27th at Lanier National Speedway in Braselton, GA. That event will be a double-header with the USARacing Pro Cup Series. A full schedule of events for that race will be released in the coming week on the ASA SAT website.
