NINE Wins in 8th Late Model Race of the Season at Saturday Night at SSP; Shover, Slanker, Bacchus and Lefebvre Also Visit Victory Lane.

Newberrytown, PA (June 13, 2009) – Carl Graves of Duncannon became the eighth different Late Model feature winner in as many events at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night. Enola’s Garrett Shover made his way to victory lane for the second time this season by winning the 20-lap Street Stock main feature event. Tommy Slanker of York won his third Xtreme Stock Car feature in a row. Dover’s Brian Lomman won the XSC Rookie Rumble. Paul Bacchus of Valencia collected the 12-lap PENNMAR Vintage Car main event. Brian Lefebvre of Etters won the 10-lap Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van feature event.
The start of the 20-lap Late Model feature event found John Baker Jr. grabbing the early lead. Baker led the first nine laps until he retired to the pit area with mechanical problems. Carl Graves started seventh and took over the lead from Baker. Graves held onto the lead for the remainder of the event to pick up the win. A wild battle for second place found Stave Bailor edging Gene Knaub at the finish to claim second. Steve Billet and Alex Updegraff finished strong in the fouth and fifth place spots. Qualifying heat races were won by Baker and Knaub.
The 20-lap Street Stock feature event began with Bruce McClane taking command and leading for the first four circuits. On lap five McClane broke and spun in front of the field in turn two, giving the lead to Garrett Shover. Shover paced the field for the final sixteen laps with heavy pressure from the behind. At the checkered, Shover collected his second win of the season, followed by Jim Palm, Jr. and Dustin Hollinger. Scott Thunberg and Doug Bennett rounded out the top five. Greg Diehl and Hollinger won their respective qualifying heat races.
Lance Danmyer led the first six laps of the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event until he relinqushed the lead to Tommy Slanker on lap 7. Slanker drove a smooth race with heavy pressure from Mike Zeigler Jr. and Travis Horan. On lap 18 the caution flag flew, setting up a two lap dash for the finish which found Slanker holding onto the lead to win his third straight at SSP. Zeigler Jr. finished second, followed by Horan, Adam Smith and Donnie Broderick. Danmyer and Broderick won the XSC qualifying heat races. Brian Lomman won the 15-lap XSC Rookie Rumble event.
Paul Bacchus led all twelve laps of the PENNMAR Vintage Car feature event to collect his second SSP feature of the season. Fred Krickbaum finished second, followed by Tom Swanger, Larry Felty and Stan Hawk. Felty was the heat race victor.
The 10-lap Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van feature event was won by Brian Lefbvre with a last lap pass. Bill Wise Jr. finished second over Daryl Sipe, Nate Lefebrve and Jeff Svendsen.
Action returns to the Susquehanna Speedway Park next weekend at the SSP Outback Track on Friday night, June 19 at 7:15 p.m. featuring quarter midget and go kart racing action. This will be the first race of the Summer Shoot-Out Series.
Then on Saturday night, June 20 at 7:00 p.m. the Big Track will feature the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Legends Cars (2 features) and Road Warriors. The June 13 race event will also be the “Hometown Heroes” night featuring the towns throughout Maryland. All fans entering the speedway from anywhere in the entire state of Maryland will be admitted FREE to the grandstands by showing proper photo identification and filling out an information card at the ticket booth. Before the races begin, the drivers from those hometowns will have the bring their cars to the frontstretch to meet the fans just before the National Anthem at 7:00 p.m.

The Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune is on June 17
The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune session will be on June 17, 2009. It is open to any type of racecars capable of competing on the 4/10 mile oval. The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. Each session will be 6 – 8 laps per session. The grandstands are open free to the public. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits. The fuel pumps from Miller’s Racing Parts will not be open. Anyone needing fuel should contact Miller’s Racing Parts directly. The main concession stand will also be open throughout the night.
Also on Wedesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets and karts at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and “cold pit” areas. All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the “Big Track.”
