Michel Disdier Shows True Grit with a Wild Ride at Mansfield Motorsports Park

Tuesday June 23, 2009

Mansfield, OHIO; June 22, 2009 – - French race car driver Michel Disdier finally got his wish for dry weather on race day and was able to qualify for an ARCA RE/MAX Series start. His qualifying time of 17.097 seconds placed him in 18th position on the grid for the inaugural ARCA RE/Max Tim Richmond Memorial 200.

This was a vast improvement over his previous three starts which were from the back of the grid as a result of ARCA’s having to cancel qualifying runs due to bad weather and the necessity to grid cars based on owner’s points earned thus far this season. Since Disdier and the Bowsher Motorsports Team began their season at the fifth race of the season, their points total relegated their car to start from the back of the field at each race.

The excitement grew as starting time neared. The Bowsher Motorsports team had prepared an excellent car for the race and Disdier was feeling very confident of a good result.

When the green flag flew 32, cars charged into turn one without incident. However the second time around presented a difficult moment for Michel as the car directly in front of him spun leaving nowhere for the No. 21 Bowsher Motorsports Ford to go. The result was significant damage to the car and the first caution of the night. The team performed hasty repair to the car and Disdier rejoined the fray.

After a few laps his pace was impressive and he felt he could once again make a push to regain lost positions. Consequently he spun in turn 2 and was hit by another car as he pulled away. A lengthy pit stop to repair the damage cost him six laps but the determined Frenchman reentered the race and began to make impressive progress.

“I had a very good car and I really like this track so I thought for sure I would have a good finish. To have two incidents so early in the race was a big set back for me but I was determined to do the best I could do,” said Disdier.

He added, “I pushed very hard in the second half of the race and am satisfied with my result. My next race will be at the Kentucky Speedway on July 18 and I have raced there earlier this year and like that track so I am expecting a much better finish,” concluded Disdier.

This first race at Mansfield Motorsports Park for the ARCA RE/MAX series proved to be a very exciting one and for the No. 21 Bowsher Motorsports Team and Michel Disdier the 19th place finish may not have been the finish they were wanting but it was certainly an excellent finish considering the incidents of the early laps.
