Newberrytown, PA (June 25, 2009) – Racing action returns to the Susquehanna Speedway Park this weekend on Saturday night, June 27 at 7:00 p.m featuring the popular Kid’s Box Car Racing night for all children ages 10 and under. Exciting racing action will include the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Classic Cars and the Speedway Auto Sales Mini Vans. The June 27 race event will also be the “Hometown Heroes” night featuring the towns of Shermansdale, Duncannon, Enola na d Marysville. All fans entering the speedway from anywhere in the entire state of Maryland will be admitted FREE to the grandstands by showing proper photo identification and filling out an information card at the ticket booth. Before the races begin, the drivers from those hometowns will have the bring their cars to the frontstretch to meet the fans just before the National Anthem at 7:00 p.m.
Many prizes will be available for all entrants in the Kid’s Box Car Races. All children 10 and under are encouraged to decorate their boxes and compete in the races. A box car is a racecar made out of a box (with their arms, legs and head sticking out). Two family members or friends are needed for the pit crew. This will be a two-(2) lap race (on the frontstretch) with a pit stop. The pit stop will include taking off and putting shoes back on both feet for tire changes, washing the face to clean windshield and drinking a drink for fuel.
There will be an Awards Presentation to all of the SSP Outback Track Quarter Midget and Kart participants in the Spring Shoot-Out Series.
On Saturday night, racing action begins at 7:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for the Season Opener on Saturday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $12.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $10.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $22.00 with a reduced price of $20.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
The popular “Repeat Fan Discount” program will continue at SSP in 2009 for the sixth straight season. This is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
All tickets and pit passes (except comp pit passes) from Saturday night, May 16 will be honored for the next six weeks. A ticket stub or pit wristband is required to receive a new ticket or pit pass.
Action returns to the SSP Outback Track on Friday night, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. featuring quarter midgets, karts and Speedcars racing action. This will be the second race of the Summer Shoot-Out Series.
