McCaskill will bid for 2nd straight Bailey’s 200 victory Friday night at South Boston Speedway

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — Deac McCaskill scored his first victory of the 2008 season last year when South Boston Speedway hosted the Bailey’s Late Model 200 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race program.

McCaskill will be back in the field Friday night when the region’s best Late Model Stock Car competitors roll off for the 200-lap shootout. The winner of the prestigious race will pocket $5,000.

The 200-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock Car event is one of three huge races planned Friday night. The first event will get the green flag at 7 p.m. Also slated will be a 100-lap race for the Limited Sportsman Division and a 50-lap event for the drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

The night of racing will be capped off with South Boston Speedway’s annual fireworks display — always one of the most impressive in the region.

McCaskill enters racing action Friday as the points leader in the chase for the 2009 South Boston Speedway championship. That means he will have his hands full with other drivers bidding for the title as well as many others who will show up seeking the $5,000 payday.

McCaskill leads Justin Johnson by two points in the championship standings, while David Quackenbush, Nick Smith and Eddie Johnson round out the top five.

Other top drivers who have indicated they will be on hand for Friday night’s race include defending NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion Philip Morris, David Triplett, Tommy Lemons, Jr., Greg Edwards, and many others.

Brian Pembelton is the points leader in the Limited Sportsman Division, but he is sure to have much contention from second-place Jeb Burton and third-place Tommy Peregoy.

In addition, the Limited Sportsman Division competitors will have to contend with Grand-Am racer Nick Igdalsky, who will be motoring the #03 car normally piloted by George Spencer. Igdalsky, the senior vice president of Pocono Speedway and South Boston Speedway, has been to Victory Lane in the past at America’s Hometown Track in Pure Stock competition.

Courtney Crosby has jumped to the top of the Budweiser Pure Stock standings. He is four points ahead of Mickey Cassidy, while Chris Crosby sits just another two points back in third place.

Prior to racing action Friday, fans will be able to go trackside to meet and greet their favorite competitors during Fan Appreciation from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Practice for all divisions will be held Friday from 2:15 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 4:30 p.m.

Adult admission on the day of the race will be $20. Children, ages 7-12, will be admitted for $10 and children, ages six and under, will be admitted free. Youth discounts are only valid if accompanied by a paying adult.
