Devin Jones Prepares for PASS South Season

Sunday March 7, 2010

Racer Ready for Run at 2010 Super Late Model Series Title

While many parts of the country are still trying to shake the cold, wet and snow-filled winter season, 15-year-old racer Devin Jones is already warmed up and ready for his full season of racing action in 2010.  With one race under his belt already, Jones is ready for a run at the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model championship, which begins at Dillon Motor Speedway (SC) in the “South Carolina Clash 150” on Saturday, March 13th.

At the end of January, Jones piloted his #35 Super Late Model at New Smyrna Speedway (FL), a track he had not competed at in the past, in the PASS National opener.  After a strong run up through the field towards the top five from his qualifying position of 14th, Jones was collected up in an accident that damaged his radiator, relegating him to a 16th-place finish, but his spirits were not crushed as the Devin Jones Racing team knew they had a top-five car.  Jones is taking that confidence and momentum to another track he has yet to compete at, this time in South Carolina.

“I’m looking forward to racing at Dillon, it’s a track with a lot of character and two completely different corners,” said Jones. “We tested there on Friday. Everything went well, Chase Pistone’s history and experience at the track proved to be a great asset.”

Racing a partial schedule in the 2009 PASS South Series season, his first year of Super Late Model racing, Jones finished an impressive ninth in the season standings, despite not competing in four of the 14 events.  Now, with a year under his belt and a full-season campaign on his schedule, Jones and his team are ready to compete not only for victories every race, but for the 2010 title.

“The 2010 PASS schedule will take us to a number of tracks we’ve got good experience at,” said Jones. “Tracks including Hickory Motor Speedway, Orange County and Wake County are all tracks where we run well. We’re also excited to run on some new tracks with PASS this year, including the big money race at North Wilkesboro. That will be the crown jewel to win this season and we’re confident that we can be right there for the title.”

Jones will not only compete for the PASS South championship in 2010, he will also race a NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Truck for multiple events at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC) throughout the season.

The “South Carolina Clash 150” PASS South Super Late Model Series season opener takes place at Dillon Motor Speedway in Dillon, South Carolina, on Saturday, March 13th.
