Now, I have found an advantage to being disabled…if the race rains out on Sunday, I get to watch it on Monday. Not the best reason, but hey, at least I found one.

  • Tire problems plagued many of the teams Monday. Goodyear said they bought a harder tire to Atlanta. This caused the cars to slide much more on the track, thus causing more wear. This isn’t good for the car’s handling, or the team’s bottom line because those tires are not cheap.
  • The grass is always greener on the other side, or so the saying goes. Unfortunately, for some, they had to learn the hard way. Just ask Kurt Busch, who I thought was an ungrateful S.O.B. for leaving Roush Racing, after they gave him a championship. Jamie McMurray may soond find how true this saying can be as well. Just look how that 42 team is doing now.

So many drivers don’t get the break they need to perform up to their personal potential. All of the drivers that make it into the Cup Series are good drivers…yes, some better than others, but all are good drivers.

The equipment under that driver can, and usually does, make all the difference in the world. Someone like Kurt Busch, who right off the bat gets the best equipment, and one of the best teams is lucky.

Kurt is still with a good team over at Penske Racing. However Roush Racing, having the five teams, has a clear advantage over the rest. I think Kurt just got a swelled head being put in the situation he was and never appreciated it. He may come to appreciate it before he knows it. Unfortunately for him it will be too late now.

  • WHAT? A BLACK MAN DRIVING A CUP CAR? NASCAR and the media made way too big of a deal out of this. Especially considering who the poor guy had as a sponsor. Now, don’t get me wrong, most of the PR guys were probably wishing they had this guy, with all the publicity he got.

Who was his sponsor though? Waste Management? Yes, that’s right… the African American guy got to ride around in the garbage car. Shoot, they should have gotten Church’s chicken to sponsor him. At least then most would have been rolling on the floor laughing. It would have been much better than being known as the garbage man. In the Northern states, this job has primarily been held by the Italian guys. In the South, however, this has always been a job primarily held by African Americans.

With the unions in the North, it’s a great job to have. Mainly, because they are well paying positions to have. Not so in the South, and I doubt very much if the guys around here brag about being the garbage man.

On to the Game"¦

11. Once in a while, I will put in a bonus trivia question.

Here is an example of the picks I’ll need this week.

BOB’S CORNER RACING PICKS: for this week

Pole Winner: Kirk Shelmerdine

1st Kyle Petty
2nd Morgan Shepherd
3rd Mike Wallace
4th Mike Skinner
5th Kenny Wallace

The following driver will finish last from the list above...Kurt Busch

Top Finishing Rookie: Denny Hamlin

TRIVIA TRIVIA TRIVIA…..

Let’s see if you all were paying attention to this week’s race. It’s a two-part question… each part you get correctly earns you five points.

Who was the first black driver to enter a Cup Series race, and in what year?

Game Update After Atlanta

Pole: Kasey Kahne – Two picked him for the pole.

1st Kasey Kahne
Two of you picked him to win.

2nd Mark Martin
None of you picked him for second.

3rd Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Five of you picked him for third.

4th Jeff Gordon
Eight of you picked him for fourth.

5th Tony Stewart
No one picked him for fifth.

*Last place finisher from the list*"¦ Jeremy Mayfield
Twenty of you picked him for last.

Top Finishing Rookie of the Race: Reed Sorenson
No one picked him for top finishing rookie this week.

Three Pick Rule
Four of you earned points for this at Atlanta.

Top Five in points after Atlanta

1. Fourby holds his/her lead, narrowly with 97 points.

2. Demelza888 must be paying someone off at NASCAR for the picks these past two weeks. Demelza888 moves from fifth to second, and now has 90 points.

3. Wnewcomb drops another spot this week to third with 86 points.

4. BradnSC drops back a bit this week to fourth with 73 points.

5. Firemedic181 must have forgotten to send in picks this week costing him/her a position on the track… he/she is now in fifth with 55 points.

Don’t think you are out of it, folks, lots of racing to go in this session of Bob’s Corner Racing Game. Just ask Demelza888, he/she went from not even in the top ten to second in just two weeks.

Look for NASCAR trivia to return to Bob’ s Corner Racing Game next week. Don’t forget to answer trivia this week…see above.

One other thing that needs mentioning as the season begins to progress. I am human, and I occasionally make mistakes. I have to manually go through each and every email to tally the points, and it is always easy to miss one or two. If you happen to see I missed something, simply drop me a NICE email and I will check it out and correct any errors I may have made.

Good Luck, everyone!

What’s the big deal with Bill Lester’s sponsoship? Waste Management also sponsors Sterling Marlin and has sponsored Matt Kenseth in the past.
