Jonothan Morgan’s Perfect Performance Tops Fast Friday at the Indianapolis Speedrome

Tuesday May 8, 2012

Fast Friday May 4, 2012 is now in the books at the Bryant Heating & Cooling Indianapolis Speedrome®. Fans saw a wave of young gun racers turn their first competition laps of the year. A historic inaugural Junior Hornet clash and the season kickoff point event for the Circle City Pyrotechnics Junior Faskarts were the main options for the next generation. Also on track during this evening were the INEX Legends, Performance Racing Products INEX Thunder Roadsters, Hornets, and Hornet Figure 8’s. There were many smiling faces after this motorsports meeting of speed.

A new era began this night for the Circle City Pyrotechnics Junior Faskarts. An exciting spec engine package has brought many fresh faces into the class. Heat one had World Figure 8® Champion daughter Kimmie Greig win in her very first career start. Garrett Fox was second with Levi Hargraves third. The second heat saw reigning Fall Festival king Cameron Wolfe victorious over Brayde Harper and Quentin White. The 20-lap feature had Harper break out strong in this start to his sophomore campaign. Joining him after a few circuits was Wolfe who began the race on the tail. Cameron claimed the top spot just before midway and drove to a dominating victory. Brayde was a career best runner-up followed by impressive rookie Hargraves.

The very first competitive laps in Junior Hornet history came tonight. The new stock car starter class for drivers 12-16 has several exhibition events lined up for this month of May. The preliminary heat saw reigning Junior Faskart champion Jordan Hahn best over Layne Pulliam and Andrew Teepe. The record books had a page waiting for the winner of the main event. Teepe launched out to the early lead with Pulliam and Kenny Hope Jr in the mix. As Andrew clicked off track orbits, his former Faskart rival Hahn was now second and started cutting down the distance. But it would not be enough as Andrew Teepe became the first to win a feature in the division. Hahn was second with Justin Green third. Justin was the first Junior Hornet to take practice laps back in March.

Chase for the Cup glory quests also began on this night for Hornets on both the oval and Figure 8 disciplines. Oval heat one saw invading Roadrunner driver Harold Bruce winning over Carl Drake and Josh Reel. The second lefty heat had Jonothan “Captain” Morgan best over Jeff A Smith and Don VanValkenburg III. The Figure 8 preliminary saw Morgan again tops over DVV3 and Smith. That trio swept the podiums in the main events as well. Jonothan earned checkered flags in both to bring his statistics for the show to a perfect 4-for-4. VanValkenburg was second in the oval and third in the eight. Smith had those finishing roles reverse of Don when the results became official.

The INEX sanctioned speedsters had two contingencies on the property for Fast Friday. The INEX Legends began with heat race one. That 8-lapper saw Spring Fling title runner-up Marty Griffin victorious over Chris Hacker and Joe Thurman. The second tester had Aaron Holden arriving in the winner’s circle ahead of his father Tony and John Robbins. They hit the feature trail with veteran Eric Black pacing the pack. Tyler Payne poured on the pressure with Robbins and Aaron H. tightly bunched behind. John and Tyler vied for the same piece of real estate and hooked bumpers for a bit leaving the bottom door open. Holden darted from 4th to 2nd instantly. He challenged Black lap after lap heading for the white flag. Aaron made a last gasp move, but went for a spin. Eric went on to win with Robbins runner-up in his first career Speedrome start. Payne was third. The Performance Racing Products INEX Thunder Roadsters were also in competition. Griffin notched his initial victory in this class over newcomer Jordan Hiner in the Team Holden machine.
