Brian Owens Captures Victory At Dillon Motor Speedway

Wednesday August 1, 2012

By Hunter Thomas

Dillon Motor Speedway dodged the rain and hosted six features on Saturday, July 28.

Chris Connor dominated the Mini Cup feature to take the checkered flag and the trophy. Steve Chauncey finished second with Chris Bachman in his brand new car finishing a close third. Teenager, Jessica Poland finished fourth while Bill Willis rounded out the top-five. Ryan Walsh took the checkered flag for the first time in the Mini Cup dash feature earlier in the night.

Hal Goodson dominated the night in the Super Truck feature. He was able to hold off runner-up finisher Archie Adams Jr. The two drivers mimicked each other all night, just waiting for a slip-up. Hayes Goodson started second, but fell back to finish third. Anthony Adams finished fourth. After competing in the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) race at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indiana, Brad Cox made his way back to Dillon Motor Speedway to finish fifth the following night. There were only three cautions during the 50-lap feature. Two involved James Brown spinning out, and the third caution was thrown when Kevin Parsons had a flat tire.

Brian Owens took the checkered flag in the Charger feature. AJ Walsh was chasing Owens all night long and just ran out of laps as he had to settle for second place. Ricky Locklair Sr. finished third. Andy Norton and Neal Anderson had strong finishes as they rounded out the top-five. Pole sitter Larry Moore finished sixth after having mechanical issues late in the race.

Jason Calhoun was awarded the Street Stock win after Ricky Locklair Jr.’s car failed post-race inspection. Marshall Jones had the leader in sight all night, but once the checkered flag flew, he crossed the finish line in the second position. Ricky Locklair Sr. rounded out the top-three. Tommy Poole rebounded from a late-race spin to finish fourth. AJ Hyatt finished fifth.

Emory Herring led the majority of the Four Cylinder feature, but with just a handful of laps to go, Kevin Jackson was able to slide by and take the checkered flag. Colt Cook rounded out the top-three.

Kevyn Terry won the 50-lap Rolling Thunder Modified feature. Trevor Edwards finished second, Chris Brown third, Jake Vuncannon fourth, and Bobby Sheffield rounded out the top-five after almost flipping over the backstretch wall.

On Saturday, August 4, the Late Models, Chargers, Street Stocks, Mini Cups and UCARs will take to the track. The UCARs will be competing for $300 to win. Gates open at 2 p.m., practice is at 4 p.m., and the green flag will fly at 7:30 p.m. Adult grandstand tickets are $12. Military and seniors have a $2 discount, and kids under 12 years old are free.
