Shackelford, Shelby Top Joe’s Value Construction Late Models
A hearty pack of Joe’s Value Construction Late Models turned up to give an astounding crowd of Wednesday evening motorsports fans a great, great show. Austin Tunny started off the day piloting his dad’s #7 machine to quick time in qualifications with a lap of 13.413 seconds. On this note speaking of Austin’s father, all of Speedrome Nation wants to send out well wishes to Bill Tunny Jr who truly is the “man with no fear” on and off the track. Reigning track champion Doug Greig won the trophy dash while RJ Norton III and Jeff Shackelford snagged heat race wins. The 25-lap oval main saw a fresh face in victory lane. Division rookie Todd Shelby put on a powerful performance to capture his first-ever Late Model win. Jesse Tunny was second and Eddie Rogers third. The main event of the night came via a Speedrome signature Late Model Figure 8. Tasting the champagne after spirited 35-lap three-car duel was veteran Jeff Shackelford. The entertaining driver took home his 5th career crossover feature triumph and first since the 2006 season. Greig was the runner-up with Ben Tunny third.
Junior Hornet August Title Kickoff Win Goes to Jordan Hahn
The inaugural year of Junior Hornet competition has produced some exciting action and some talented new racers to Speedrome fans. Two championship are already in the books with Jordan Hahn winning in June and Andrew Teepe in July. The August crown quest started Wednesday night August 1st. The preliminary heat race saw last month newcomer Jacob Brown take checkers over Hahn and Ironman Justin Green. The feature had Jordan bursting to the front after surplanting ever-improving Layne Pulliam for the top spot. Hahn would pace the rest of the way to take this initial August winner’s trophy. Teepe rose up for second with Pulliam, Brown, and Green rounding out the top five finishers.
The VanValkenburg Train Kept-A-Rollin’ in Hornet Figure 8 Action
Wednesday evening had some new challengers and some familiar foes aiming to knock the car #54 locomotive of Don VanValkenburg III off his winning tracks. An 8-lap heat race was the opening attempt. Former division champion Brad Brooks used his skill to push the limits, but dandy Don crossed the line first. Brooks and Jim Bullock followed him in the results. The feature was next up for the Figure 8 gladiators. Rookie leader Bullock made a passionate push for victory, but he had to settle for a career best finish of second to DVV3. This coming on a night where Jim tied the knot at the starting line just before racing got underway. VanValkenburg claimed his 12th win in just 16 regular season starts.
