Jessica Poland Wins First Feature at Dillon Motor Speedway

Several drivers visited Victory Lane for the first time this season at Dillon Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 4.
Jessica Poland, fourteen year old competing in the Carolina Eastern Mini Cup Association captured her first career victory in the dash race this weekend. The young girl led flag-to-flag. In the main event, Chris Connor was the class of the field taking home his second victory in a row. Bill Willis finished second with Ryan Walsh rounding out the top-three. Steve Chauncey finished fourth, and Chris Bachman crossed the finish line in fifth.
After having issues on the first lap in the Late Model feature, Justin Hicks passed every car to bring home yet another trophy. Hicks was also involved in a crash on lap six when he and Archie Adams Sr. made contact heading into turn one. Archie Adams Jr. finished second, and Jason Clark finished third. Ryan Hall led the first 34 laps, but as the race wore on, Hall fell back to finish fourth. Marty Griggs rounded out the top-five.
Larry Moore led the first 23 laps this past weekend in the Charger feature. Moore getting closer and closer to reaching Victory Lane, but this weekend it was Mike Watts who crossed the finish line first. Last week’s winner, Brian Owens finished a close second. Larry Moore rounded out the top-three. AJ Walsh finished fourth, and Trey Cutler finished fifth.
AJ Hyatt won his first race of the season after leading flag-to-flag. Tommy Poole was chasing Hyatt all night, but he had to settle for second place once the checkered flag was thrown. Marshall Jones finished third, and Ricky Locklair Sr. finished fourth. Joey Wilkes rounded out the top-five.
Mark Dean dominated the UCAR feature. Andy Norton finished second, Josh Dean third, Jason Beck fourth, and Marty Dean finished fifth. The 20 lap feature went caution free.
Dillon Motor Speedway will be closed this weekend, but the speedway will be back in action on Saturday, August 18 when the Late Models, Chargers, Street Stocks, Four Cylinders and UCARs take to the track. Gates open at 2 p.m., practice is at 4 p.m., and the green flag will fly at 7:30 p.m. Adult grandstand tickets are $12. Military and seniors have a $2 discount, and kids under 12 years old are free.
