Bedell Wins Unpredictable 50-Lap Figure 8

Ever heard that odd racing cliché that nobody wants to win this race? While this quote is not really true, this past Saturday’s 50-lap Figure 8 feature resembled this statement. RJ Norton III was on his way to career win number #2 when contact sent him spinning into the infield on circuit 16. “Big Dog” Bobby Douthitt also had a chance to triumph which ended a lap later with left front damage. Austin Tunny was the next sure fire winner. The youngest of Bill Tunny Jr’s children led a chunk of laps before getting shuffled by traffic. This opened the door for evening fast qualifier Gary Bedell. His road to his first Speedrome Figure 8 win since June 5, 2010 had a final test when the red flag waved with 18 to go. This placed second place Ben Tunny alongside Gary. Bedell got the proper bite on the resumption and sailed to victory over Ben and Jesse Tunny. The points tightened up after standings leader Doug Greig dropped out on lap 22, a rare occurrence for the defending
series king.

Late Model Friday Features Go to Greig & White

The tense $10,000-to-win Joe’s Value Construction Late Model playoffs made the rare visit to Friday night after weather postponed the previous weekend. Jesse Tunny earned top points in afternoon time trials with a nifty lap of 13.372 seconds. Reigning World Figure 8® Champion Doug Greig captured the trophy dash while Bobby Whitaker and Dennis Sloan won the preliminary heat races. The 25-lap oval main had “Big Cat” Casey White glide his way from the back to make an outside pass for his second victory on this course in 2012. Doug was second with Jesse third. The Figure 8 feature was next. Greig used a mid race red flag to close the gap to Jesse and leader Eddie Rogers. Doug dispatched each to capture his 4th crossover main of the season. Jesse stood second besting older brother Ben after the 35-laps.

Smith Continues Climb Up the Stock Rankings with Win

After a Brickyard weekend rainout, the Stocks were on hand August 3rd for the first of two straight Friday events. The all oval agenda launched with qualifications. Reigning class king Speedy Teepe was quickest with a lap of 13.836 seconds. Heat one had “Sharp Dressed Man” Larry Hahn triumphant over Donnie Sloan and EJ Neat. The second heat saw veteran Bob Johnson finishing best over Christopher Green and Jeff A Smith. Johnson stormed to first place at the beginning of the feature. Bob piled up the laps led until his rear gear weakened. Smith slid past and drove to his career best 4th Stock big trophy of 2012. Point leader Hahn was runner-up with Nigel Peters third.
