Norton Knifes Thru Field for Speedrome Figure 8 Win

The $10,000-to-win Joe’s Value Construction Late Model Chase for the Cup is getting more and more intense as only a few events remain to crown a king. Saturday August 11th at the Bryant Heating and Cooling Indianapolis Speedrome® saw the fan favorite division charge into battle first on the oval. 2009 World Figure 8® Champion Ben Tunny was the fast qualifier at 13.251 seconds. Austin Tunny was the trophy dash race winner while Casey White and Steve Frost Jr topped preliminary heat races. The 25-lap oval feature progressed with veteran Chris Green lurch away from point leader and reigning Late Model champ Doug Greig to capture his 8th ever Speedrome victory. Jesse Tunny was third. Fourth was a notable career best finish for rookie Zach Catron

The 50-lap Joe’s Value Construction Late Model had the green light turn on with Steve Frost blasting his chill on the race lineup. The longtime staple of the division pushed his lead out to a straightaway advantage over RJ Norton III who had a covey of competitors on his bumper. Steve kept charging out front looking for his 3rd division crossover triumph and first since the year 2000. Just past midway, RJ Norton Jr muscled past his son for second. The next orbit saw the red flag wave for a stalled first turn machine setting up a one-on-one clash erasing a big lead. Norton bested the restart and was soon joined by Greig. The last two World Figure 8® Champions sped to the finish in just that order. His 45th career Late Model feature win puts him in sole possession of 10th on the all-time list, ironically right behind Greig. Green completed a strong evening by placing third.

Point Leader Harper Posts Another Faskart Win

It was another exciting event Friday August 10th for the young stars in the Circle City Pyrotechnics Junior Faskart series. Heat race one had rookie feature winner Garrett Fox return with this 8-lap triumph. Fellow freshman racer Levei Hargraves was second with 2011 Speedrome Jr Spec class champion Dustin Kares third. The second opening heat saw James “Thunder” Rybolt blast to victory over point leader Brayde Harper and reigning Fall Festival king Cameron Wolfe. Many of those preliminary podium drivers would battle for the win in the main event. Harper would hold off all comers with his second straight and fourth feature checkered of the year. Wolfe was a strong runner-up followed by Fox, Rybolt, and Kimberly Greig in the final results.

Circle City Pyrotechnics Junior Faskart Chase for the Cup Point Standings – 1 Brayde Harper 1879, 2 Cameron Wolfe 1867, 3 Quentin White 1863, 4 Kimmie Greig 1862, 5 Dustin Kares 1836, 5 Caitlyn Wolfe 1836, 7 Levei Hargraves 1832, 8 James Rybolt 1791, 9 Jayson Glaze 1667, 10 Nicole Viela 1638, 11 Garrett Fox 1570, 12 Garrett Delk-Shackelford 84

Thurman Tightens Legend Standings

The weekly wars for the INEX Legend division were once again at hand during Fast Friday festivities. Master class racer Marty Griffin was first to strike winning the introductory heat tester. His #15 crossed the finish line ahead of Pro John Robbins and Semi Pro Tyler Payne. The 25-lap main event had 2011 series runner-up Joe Thurman march his way to his first victory of the season. The Master driver held off the charge of Robbins, Payne, Griffin, and reigning INEX Speedrome Bandolero champion Chris Hacker in the final listings.
